• Wild Animal Adventures (Stanton, MO)

The 2 tigers were together in the pen, we got to see them interact, swim, play, and relax.

After the girls got out of Cub Creek camp in Missouri we went visited Wild Animal Adventures.  It is outside of St. Louis in Stanton, Missouri.  It was a smaller establishment, but the animals were well cared for.  We went at busy time and their parking lot was full (they had a trailer blocking part of the parking lot which made it a little inconvenient) but after a few minutes we got a spot.

They have an indoor section with aquariums, touch tanks, birds, reptiles and more.  Outside the have both farm and wild animals in different sections.  The workers seemed to enjoy being there, interacted well with the animals and were happy to share stories about the animals.

Our girls did two extra interactions, playing with the foxes and the dingos. The dingos also known as “singing dogs” were tired so they were laying down and let the kids pet them. I was hoping to hear them “sing” but they were not into that while we were there. The workers allowed 4 people in at one time with the dingos.  For the foxes they gave the kids “treats” aka cat food to feed to the foxes.  Our two girls were the only ones other than the worker in the pen with the foxes.  The foxes loved munching on the treats and were more energetic.  The website lists the extra activities with a price range, however, at least one of the activities was more than their list price. They need to update their website if they are not still charging those rates.

Overall it was a fun stop for our family.  The animals were fairly active and the employees were nice. If you are driving through the area it is a nice place to stop especially if you  have kids that enjoy animals. We have included a sprinkling of photos from our trip to Wild Animal Adventures.

    The llama had some personality.

    Gorgeous colors

The kids were not interested in the pretty flowers, but I enjoyed them!

Their 3 legged white fox. He can still move quickly and nibbled up treats from the girls.

This one liked to interact and have conversations with you!

The llama was more interested in you if you had food!

Glad this one was in a cage and behind a window.

    Beautiful white tiger!

Flashback Friday - Brina and Karlie watching Daddy, he just brought out the trainc

Watching Daddy bring in a train toy!  What is it!?  Looks like fun!

Today’s Flashback Friday goes back to when the girls were 8 months old.  They would get so excited to play with various toys.  If you pulled out a new toy that they haven’t seen before they would eagerly check it out.  The hard part was when both wanted to play with it at the same time.  They were pretty good at sharing back and forth with only a few exceptions at this point.  If one would take a toy away the other one would just play with another one, no big deal.

  • Recipes: Campfire Garlic Bread

    P1420484c

Smells really good! Starting for flip the garlic bread!

What’s better than traditional garlic bread as a side dish?  Campfire Garlic Bread of course!  The mixture of garlic with the hint of fire crispness makes it all the better.  The fire will give it an extra flavor too.  Not to mention it smells amazing as it is cooking.

Whether you planning your next camping trip or staying home.  It is super easy to make and a perfect addition to your camping or backyard bonfire meal.  Enjoy!

    Cook Time6 minutes
    Total Time16 minutes
    Course: Side Dish
    Cuisine: American, Camping
Keyword: Camp Cooking, Camping, Garlic Bread
    Servings: 4

    Ingredients

    • 1/2 loaf French Bread Loaf
    • Butter or Margarine
    • Lawry's Garlic Salt (or similar)
    • Wooden or Metal Skewers

    Instructions

    • Soak the wooden skewers in water for about 5 to 10 minutes.  This allows them to not burn up once over the campfire.  If you have metal skewers these can be used immediately.
    • While the skewers are soaking in water.  Slice one inch thick pieces off the loaf of french bread.  These are pretty thick so we usually make one per person.  Butter both side of the bread and sprinkle on the garlic salt.
    • Stick the skewers through the bread.  Two skewers per piece works a little better when turning over the fire, but 1 will work too.
    • Place the garlic bread on the campfire.  Cook until slight lines start appearing on the buttered bread and flip once.  Depending on how hot the fire is it should only take 1 to 3 minutes per side.

    Notes

Makes between 3 to 6 pieces of garlic bread based on the size and shape of your french bread.

Cooking Steak & Kielbasa over the fire pit

In South Carolina the weather is starting to cool off just a little bit.  During the days it is still toasty, but the evenings are beginning to have more coolness as the Fall season draws nearer.  Since the nights are starting to cool off the weekends are a perfect time to go camping as a family.  One of the fun adventures (as the kids say) about camping is making all your food over the campfire.

We don’t go camping as often as we like.  Life gets busy, but it is fun when we can get away.  If you are like us and can’t always get away you can still enjoy a great campfire meal in your own back yard.  When we have a yard clean up day we will often end the day with a campfire meal and relaxing together as a family.  There is just something tasty about a meal cooked over a campfire!

    Course: Main Course
    Cuisine: American, Camping
    Keyword: Camping, Kielbasa, Steak
    Servings: 4

    Ingredients

    • 1 lb Flank Steak Cut into strips
    • 1 package Kielbasa (12-14 ounces)
    • 1/4 cup Italian Salad Dressing
    • Wooden or Metal Skewers

    Instructions

    • Marinate the steak in 1/4 cup of Italian Salad Dressing for 30 minutes or more.  This gives the steak a nice flavor and seals in the juices when it is being cooked over the campfire.  To avoid taking the Italian Salad Dressing with you on a camping trip just place the steaks in a ziplock bag with the Italian Salad Dressing and it will be ready to go on the campfire anytime.
    • Soak the wooden skewers in water for about 5 to 10 minutes.  This allows them to not burn up once over the campfire.  If you have metal skewers these can be used immediately.
    • Stick the skewers through the Steaks and Kielbasa.
    • Place the steaks and kielbasa on the campfire.  Cook and flip once until it is done to your liking.  If you like rare steak it will only take a minute or two per side over a hot fire.  If you like it well done it will take a little longer.  The Kielbasa’s will cook fast over a hot fire or bed of coals too.

  • Fun Around Town: Big Celebrity Cats at Hollywild Animal Park (Wellford, SC)

    P1150260c

    “Mandela” the white lion!

Our family had a great time at Hollywild Animal Park.  Upon entering the park I was given a packet with a very nice “Welcome” letter from Kim along with a map, her business card, a bracelet for each of us to wear, and other park information. The workers from the Safari Bus driver to the Creature Feature Show to the Gift Shop Clerk and the various ones we encountered throughout our journey through the park were always willing to answer any questions we had along the way (most of the questions were the kids asking about various animals).  It was a wonderful activity to do with the family.

As I have mentioned in a couple other posts several of the animals that reside at Hollywild have been stars in Movies, Commercials, Print Ads, Sport Events, TV Shows, events, and much more.  The animals seemed friendly, content, and interactive with the people passing through the park.

It was great that even the lions were up and active while we were at Hollywild!  Usually at the zoo and other places you don’t often see the lions moving or playing around too much in their pens.  The white lion paused while moving around so we were able to get some shots of him, but the brown lion didn’t ever stop moving for a good picture.

We ended our trip through the park about the time they were getting ready to close.  The workers were starting to feed the animals their dinners so that was pretty cool to watch some of the animals munching down on one of their favorites treats.

Someone came to say “hi” to me!

It is no great surprise to us that the Baby Animal Barn and the Creature Feature Show at Hollywild Animal Park were a big hit with the kids.  There is something extra sweet about interacting with a soft fluffy baby animal.  The girls could have spent even longer petting and feeding the goats.  They were very entertained by them.

It was fun to watch them bottle feed the goats.  Several of the little goats had obviously had some red juice earlier that day because their faces and mouths were covered with red drips.  It was a great spot to have the kids interact a little more with the animals.  You can’t pet every animal (like the lions, tigers, and bears for obvious reasons), but you could pet and feed some of them which made the experience more fun for the kids.

    Boardwalk during the day!

Disney’s Boardwalk was only a short walking distance away from our resort, basically you had to cross a bridge to get there from where we were staying at the Swan & Dolphin Resort.  It was a neat place to walk to day or night.  You could see the Epcot fireworks from Disney’s Boardwalk every night.  You couldn’t see all the fireworks, but you got to see all the big ones for about 15 to 20 minutes.  In the evenings on the Boardwalk you can regularly see magicians, a Children’s outdoor video playing, and more activities.  They have stores, restaurants, and a lot more places to explore in the area too.

  • Holiday Gift Giving: FoxMind Presents the Gift No One Else Can Give – Time In A Box

What does every child want? An I Pad? Xbox? Maybe, but what is the one thing that every child wants, needs and deserves? At FoxMind Games they believe they know the answer and today announced the international availability of its new Time in a Box.

The new product, the brainchild of child psychologist and writer Rute Moreira, is more than its contents. It’s a gift of dedicated time; an opportunity to try new things; a way to explore art and science; a chance to plan for the future and to consider the past; and a way to tell a child in your life that they matter to you – more than anything!

David Capon, President of FoxMind, explained, “The benefits of Time in a Box extend beyond the product itself because it creates uninterrupted quality moments with the family and reinforces social-emotional connections. It also aims to reinforce the child’s feeling of connection to a larger community such as the neighborhood or the town where he or she lives.”

When you give Time in a Box, (MSRP $17.95 for 2 players ages 6 and up) you are offering a child you care about the gift no one else in the world can give them: your time. Inside the box you’ll find 96 activity cards that allow a child to momentarily shift your priorities and focus on doing a special activity together, such as playing a board game; solving a puzzle; starting a family tree; making a blanket fort; or carrying out an act of kindness that will bring a smile to a stranger’s face. Time in a Box includes a simple written agreement between you and the child that sets the ground rules by which you’ll both abide. Adults should switch off their smart phones and get ready for some quality time!

“Season-by-season, Time in a Box is a gift that inspires activities that provide a wealth of ways to make memories together and the unique and beautiful box can serve as a memory chest where pictures and notes can be collected and treasured,” Capon said.

Order your Time in a Box Game today on the FoxMind website today.  While you are there check out FoxMind‘s many other great games too!
