• Penguins Winter Family Puzzle

Every year we typically do a puzzle during the winter. This year “Penguins” was the puzzle of choice!  I enjoy doing the puzzle, but if it stays out for a really long period of time it starts bothering me so usually we try to do it in a timely manner. The various members of the family can walk by and put in a puzzle piece here and there. Also, during family movie time the puzzle gets some more work done on it. Once we finish we will leave it out for a few days, take a photo of the puzzle then we donate it. Does your family have a winter activity you do together at home?

    Brina getting her fairy dust!

At the Bippity Boppity Boutique downtown Disney you can stop by and get pixie fairy dust for free.  We were at the store looking around and walking by the boutique so stopped to have the girls gets some fairy dust.  They did a cute saying as the girls got the fairy dust sprinkled into their hair.  The fairy dust is basically glitter.  I don’t know if it was a special type of glitter or if the heat from running around in the hot sun all day, but that glitter stayed on for awhile.

  • Snow Days In South Carolina

     P1370025c

Karlie could spend an entire day outside in the cold she loves it so much!

A couple weeks ago we had several days of snow in South Carolina.  The girls loved it.  They had a blast playing outside in the snow.  It was great having a little extra time with them.  Not sure they went a full week of school the last part of February or the first part of March with the snow days here and there.  We’ll take the extra days together though and pack in as much fun as we can.  Snow does not last long in SC so when it comes you have fun for the brief time you have with it.  As you can see from the picture above the snow on the ground behind Karlie has already melted since that morning.

She looks so sad now that the kids are back inside….  Skipper loves snow days because the kids come out and play more.  This is the face I saw looking at us in the window shortly after the kids had come inside for lunch.  Looks like she is giving them her sad puppy eyes in hopes that they will come back outside and play again soon.  Don’t worry they were back out within 30 minutes or so.

    P1370014c

Oh no she is not going to through that snowball at me…..  Yes, I got beamed with snow balls quite a few times.  Our storm door got it too a couple times as Karlie waiting for me to come out.  Guess those were her practice throws!

  • Hiking & Tracking Animals in the Snow

    Hiking through the woods

Most kids love to go sledding, building a snowman, make snow angels, and more crazy stuff in the snow.  One of the first things our kids want to do is take a hike in the woods.  They love going through the woods, checking out the stream, and looking for various animal tracks in the snow.  We saw a lot of animal tracks and most of them I knew what they were there was only one set that had me stumped….still haven’t quite figured it out even after looking up pictures.

I think it is important to share and encourage each other as we seek to improve our lives and the lives of those around us.  I want to live intentionally not just hope all my dreams and goals come true.  When I focus on small steps of improvement I am able to see results as I get closer to my goals.  Some weeks I get closer to the goals I have in my life and other weeks a take a few steps back (life happens, emergencies occur, people get sick).  Once the goals are written down and shared it provides a guideline for what I aim to accomplish this week.

    Why Share My Goals?

    • To keep me accountable
    • To share a piece of my life with you as I strive to be a better Child of God, Wife, Mom, Friend, Homemaker, Entrepreneur and the many other roles I have each week
    • To have my goals consistently written down so I can gauge progress more accurately
    • Create healthy habits in my life
    • To encourage you to share your goals with me as you continue to grown and learn

How did you do this week on your goals?  Feel free to share or link to your list of weekly goals.

The picture above is one that I created for my own purposes, however, The “SMART” acronym was originally coined 30 years ago by Peter Drucker in his classic work, Management by Results.

  • Intentional Living: Weekly Goals

I was able to accomplish a good bit of items the first half of the week!  On Wednesday I got my second epidural steriod shot for my herniated disc so I was not able to do as much after that day.  Thankfully, this time around I bounced back much quicker and did better.  By the end of the week I was up and going again with some extra soreness and stiffness, but otherwise doing better.  Hoping that this week with be even better.  I am looking forward to spending extra time with the kids now that they are out of school for the Christmas Holidays.

    Last week’s goals

    9. Send out Christmas Cards – this is the first year in a LONG time I did not send out Christmas Cards, at first I felt really guilty about it (and still do some days), but Jake told me that with everything that has been going on these past couple of months I need to just let some things go because I cannot do it all, unfortunately this was one item I did not get done (my apologies to family and friends), hopefully next year we will be able to get back in the Christmas card groove again.

  • Family Outings: Ice Skating

Karlie and Brina ice skating for the first time with Daddy!

There is a local ice skating rink in our town that is open all year.  The first time the girls went ice skating was for a friends birthday party and they had a blast!  Even though ice skating traditionally is a “winter” sport it is a wonderful way to spend a couple hours cooling off during the heat of the summer too! If you look around you can often find tickets to your local ice skating rink as well. Who knows you may even run into a friend or two (we have) which makes it even more fun!

Here are some pictures from another fun ice skating adventure!

  • Creative Kids: Toy Bucket Ride

Brina and Karlie emptied the toy buckets and took them for a spin around the room

Life is never boring with kids around.  While playing they often come up with some creative ways to find a little extra entertainment.  The other day as I was busy getting some stuff done around the house I heard a bunch of giggles.  As I go to check out what they are up to I found that they had emptied their toy buckets and were rolling around the room in them.

Karlie giggling and spinning in circles in the toy bucket

It was pretty funny watching them spin in circles around the room all tucked up in the buckets.  Their hair was completely crazy with static and there were plenty of giggling going on too.  It is amazing how something so simple can entertain the kids for a long time.

Brina with very static hair but having a blast rolling around in the empty toy bucket

This fun activity entertained the kids for quite some time.  After their adventure of rolling around in the buckets they put the toys back into the buckets.  Wouldn’t it be great to be able to tuck our bodies in a bucket and spin around the room!

Karlie having a blast rolling around in the empty toy bucket

Sometimes it is the simplest things in life that can provide the most enjoyment and you probably have the items right in your house.  I love it when the girls use their imagination and come up with fun activities on their own.  Life is short and sweet so why not have a little fun too!  What creative entertainment have your kids come up with recently?

  • Family Fun: Rocket Sprinkler

One of the benefits to living in South Carolina is you still have warm days even in the Fall and Winter. Yes, last week it got down to 14 degrees at night but the by the end of the week we were enjoying 60 to 70 degree weather.  To help everyone think “warm” thoughts this cool winter I decided to post a fun warm weather activity that you can look forward to doing with your kids before long.

Rocket Sprinkler blasting off!  Jake had a sprinkler similar to this one growing up (his was a clown).  At the end of summer we bought this rocket.  Since we have a girl that LOVES rockets when this sprinkler went on clearance for a couple dollars I decided it was worth trying it out!

The rocket sailing through the air!  The girls love spending time outside playing.  The sprinkler provides a great source of entertainment (when it is warm enough).  It might be a few more weeks….

Brina and Karlie running around in the sprinkler and getting ready to shoot the rocket off again.

The girls have a fun time playing in the yard splashing around in the water, climbing on the jungle gym, running around with Skipper (our black lab), drawing with chalk, riding bikes or many of the other fun outside activities.  I am thankful to have a yard were they can run and play.  I am looking forward to even more fun activities as we move closer to Spring and the weather continues to warm up, maybe even a couple “snow” days too.
