• Wild Animal Adventures (Stanton, MO)

The 2 tigers were together in the pen, we got to see them interact, swim, play, and relax.

After the girls got out of Cub Creek camp in Missouri we went visited Wild Animal Adventures.  It is outside of St. Louis in Stanton, Missouri.  It was a smaller establishment, but the animals were well cared for.  We went at busy time and their parking lot was full (they had a trailer blocking part of the parking lot which made it a little inconvenient) but after a few minutes we got a spot.

They have an indoor section with aquariums, touch tanks, birds, reptiles and more.  Outside the have both farm and wild animals in different sections.  The workers seemed to enjoy being there, interacted well with the animals and were happy to share stories about the animals.

Our girls did two extra interactions, playing with the foxes and the dingos. The dingos also known as “singing dogs” were tired so they were laying down and let the kids pet them. I was hoping to hear them “sing” but they were not into that while we were there. The workers allowed 4 people in at one time with the dingos.  For the foxes they gave the kids “treats” aka cat food to feed to the foxes.  Our two girls were the only ones other than the worker in the pen with the foxes.  The foxes loved munching on the treats and were more energetic.  The website lists the extra activities with a price range, however, at least one of the activities was more than their list price. They need to update their website if they are not still charging those rates.

Overall it was a fun stop for our family.  The animals were fairly active and the employees were nice. If you are driving through the area it is a nice place to stop especially if you  have kids that enjoy animals. We have included a sprinkling of photos from our trip to Wild Animal Adventures.

    The llama had some personality.

    Gorgeous colors

The kids were not interested in the pretty flowers, but I enjoyed them!

Their 3 legged white fox. He can still move quickly and nibbled up treats from the girls.

This one liked to interact and have conversations with you!

The llama was more interested in you if you had food!

Glad this one was in a cage and behind a window.

    Beautiful white tiger!

  • Counting My Blessings: Week In Review

It was a fun week with my family.  While Jake and I were working this week the girls were busy on the farm at Horse Camp.  They were riding horses in the mornings, had a picnic lunch, helped with animal chores, and did a Bible Study at camp.  It was a busy and tiring day for them, but they loved it and several times I think they would have preferred to stay at camp instead of coming home.  They were able to experience a wide variety of tasks – trimming goat hooves, playing with soft baby lambs, washing horses & goats, hunting for chickens eggs, and more good activities.  They had a blast and loved it!

I want to be accountable to you so the following are snip-its of some of the things I am thankful for this past week.

Counting My Blessings – Week In Review:

Monday –Thankful that the kids have the opportunity to go to Horse / Farm / Bible Study camp while Jake and I were working.  They loved it!  Also, it is conveniently located only a few minutes away from my work which is a great bonus too!

Tuesday – Thankful for Jake and his thoughtfulness.  He went out of his way to stop by the store and pick up some items as a surprise for me.  I had been missing an ingredient in my smoothie drink this week (he picked up the chocolate flavor for me as a surprise), he got a couple non-dairy Mac-N-Cheese mixes for Brina, and bath salts to help me loosen up and relax a little bit more.  Love it when he surprises me with special items that are perfect for that day, moment, or time.  I am richly blessed to have him as my partner.  Love this man dearly more and more all the time!!!  XOXOXO

Wednesday – Thankful for my acupuncture doctor.  My back and shoulder were really tender and they made time to see me today which was a huge help in loosening me back up.

Thursday – Thankful for my work and that they are willing to allow me to work around the girls camp schedule.  The kids have been coming into work with me in the morning, I have been stopping to take them to camp and returning to work until they are out of camp.  They have been a big help in getting little tasks done for me at work too.

Friday – Thankful for an opportunity to get some errands run and chores done at home so we can head into the weekend a little more prepared and ready.

Saturday – Thankful for my weekend with family.  We had a lot to get done with everything going on and a busy week ahead, but we worked together, had fun, and was able to get some items done that needed attention.

Sunday – Thankful our church, the message, and a place where our girls can learn and grow with other kids their age.

What are you thankful for today?  I encourage you to take the time to write down a few blessings that you have in your life today.  It will help cheer you up and turn your focus on the amazing blessings you encounter each day.

Wednesday – Thankful for safety as we flew back on South Carolina.  Our flight was delayed, but we made it home with about 2 hours to spare before heading into work.  Grateful for our friends who took really great care of our house and pets while we were away!

Thursday – Thankful for the girls help in getting the suitcases unpacked from our trip and for a full nights sleep back in our own beds!

Friday – Thankful that the kids had a chance to hang out with their friends from church at a pool party.

Saturday – Thankful for an opportunity to spend time with Jake’s cousin and his family, Luke and Kristen!  Always great catching up and the kids played well together!

     Cozy Cow Dairy

On one of our trips to Colorado my cousin Renelle introduced us to Cozy Cow Dairy in Windsor, CO.  It was a hot summer day and we were heading back to her house when we made a slight detour to the Cozy Cow Dairy.  The girls LOVED it!  Not only did they have amazing fresh chocolate milk, ice cream, cheeses, and more they had a farm animal petting zoo.

Before even going into the store we had to go by and say “hi” to each of the farm animals.  They had some precious little ones so they girls thought it was so neat.  After petting the animals and washing our hands we enjoyed some fresh chocolate milk and ice cream.  It was DELICIOUS!!!  It hit the spot on the hot summer day too.  After our special treat we headed back outside to pet the farm animals once more before heading back to Renelle’s house.  If you are in the Windsor area this is a great place to spot, cool down, and get a treat.  The kids will probably enjoy the farm animals too!

  • Travel & Vacation: Midwest Dust Whirlwind

    Travel & Vacation - Kansas - Colorado - Road Trip - P1360786c

     Midwest Dust Whirlwind

On one our road trips while in Kansas the girls saw their first Midwest Dust Whirlwind.  Some people also called them Dust Devils.  In the past few years Kansas has been pretty dry so sometimes when a farmer is working his field or something else is stirring up a large amount of dust you’ll see a dust whirlwind pop up.

When the girls first saw it they thought it was a tornado.  It does look like a tornado touching down, but usually happens on a dry sunny day.  We were driving along Highway 34 West near Platner, Colorado when we saw this dust whirlwind.   Hopefully, the Midwest will start getting some nice rain soon so these dust devils will not be as common.  The Midwest is a large producer of crops for our nation and around the world.  We have a lot of farmers in our family from the Midwest who could use more rain for their crops.

A dust whirlwind (or commonly referred to as a dust devil) is caused when a vortex forms from the dust that is being kicked up into the air.  The dust will often form a swirling column that reaches up vertically through the air.  The dust devils could last for several hours and can either be small or large enough for people to see for many miles.  They are typically harmless other than you can get dirt in your eyes and hit by small particles of dirt if you walk or drive through one.

It was amazing to watch the swirling column of dirt raising high up into the sky.

  • Travel & Vacation: Petting Zoo at Animal Kingdom (Orlando, FL)

    P1380171c

    Petting Zoo at Animal Kingdom!

The girls were thrilled to find the petting zoo at Animal Kingdom!  They had a section were you could brush, pet, and interact with a variety of farm animals.  They had goats, sheep, pigs, and a cow that you could help groom.  There were llamas too, but they were not out in the big pen, the kids could see and pet them, but they did not interact as much as the other animals.  The kids loved brushing, petting, and hanging out with the animals.

We got there about 30 minutes before the workers took the animals into the barn for the night for their evening meal.  The animals were very active and it was fascinating to watch them trot into their barn stalls.  They knew when it was time to go into the barn and which stall contained their food.

They had an area in the shade that was roped off and contained a small jungle gym where the animals could go if they needed a break or didn’t want to be petted or brushed at that time.  You would see a handful of animals in that area, but for the most part they would go in run a loop through the jungle gym and come back out with the kids.  There were always plenty of animals out walking or laying around in the non-fenced off area that the kids had a blast.

You have to take the Wildlife Express Train to get to Rafiki’s Planet Watch and the Petting Zoo area.

Fluff was such a good sport and let Brina carry her around!

We had a grand time in Kansas visiting family.  Our time went by too quickly, but we were able to pack in a lot during our time in the area.  We spent time with Great Grandparents, Grandparents, Uncles, Aunts, Cousins and more.  Thankful for family and the moments we get to share.

    P1250243c

  • Fun with the Animals

    P1250132c

    Walking the animals!

At Grandpa Russell and Grandma Penny’s house they had two dogs, cats, pony, and a horse that provided a lot of fun entertainment for the kids.  Everyday they played with the dogs, cat, and did something with the horse and pony.  Sometimes they went for carriage rides, combed them, rode the horse and pony, or led them around the pasture.  The girls enjoy anything to do with animals so these activities were a big hit!

Karlie playing with Aunt Renelle’s dog!

The girls love animals and are always game to spend some extra time with any animal.  When we were in Colorado we stayed with at my cousin Renelle and Eric’s house.  They have two dogs and two cats that are in the house so the girls thought that was awesome.  They had a blast playing with all the animals (well, except for one of the cats who booked it as soon as he saw us bringing our suitcase inside the house.

The horse and pony are a big highlight for the kids when visiting Grandpa and Grandma in Kansas!  The girls would probably spend a good chunk of their days out with the horse and pony if they could.  They both really enjoy animals especially horses!  Grandma Penny was kind enough to let the kids go for a ride on the horse, pony, and in the carriage.  All four of the grandkids that were visiting at the time got turns to ride!
