  • Gift Giving: Amazon Baby Registry

We have several family and friends who are expecting little ones in the near future!  YAY!!!  So happy for these dear people and the newest additions to their families.  Some of them are having their very first babies while others they are expanding their families even more.

There is a lot of excitement and planning that goes into having a baby.  One of the fun events is picking out the various items for the new baby and creating a baby registry.  When I was pregnant with the twins I was unable to do the traditional Baby Registry due to 12 weeks of permanent bedrest.  I had to rely on family and friends to be my eyes and ears at the store and the rest of the items I had to pick out online.  Thankfully there are so many great options for expectant Moms now such as Amazon’s Baby Registry.

If you are looking for an easy and convenient way to set up your Baby Registry try out Amazon’s Baby Registry.  It doesn’t matter where your family and friends are located they can easily purchase an item specific for your little one and have it sent directly to you (which can save on the shipping cost).

Here are some great benefits to having an Amazon Baby Registry:

  • Simple Cleaning Solution For A Dirty Microwave

    P1300820c

Sparkly clean now (in a matter of minutes)!

Every once in awhile I open the microwave and about gag.  Usually everyone is pretty good about covering up items that go into the microwave, but occasionally someone forgets or items over boil or splatter.  Over time a splatter there and a spill here ends up making the microwave a gross sticky mess.  Once it gets to that point it’s time for some deep cleaning.

By using a little bit of water, vinegar, lemon juice, and steam you’ll have your microwave gleaming in a matter of minutes!  The best part about this deep cleaning formula is that it is super simple (the microwave does the majority of the work) and it’s made from items you probably already have in your kitchen.

    Simple Microwave Cleaning Solution:

    • 1 1/2 cups Water
    • 2 tablespoons Vinegar
    • 1 tablespoon Lemon Juice
    • 1 wooden toothpick

Put the water, vinegar, lemon juice, and wooden toothpick  in a microwavable bowl.  The wooden toothpick will float and help keep the water from boiling over.  Place the bowl in the microwave, close the door, and heat for 5 minutes.  After it is finished let the bowl set for 2 additional minutes in the microwave before opening the door.  The extra minutes setting will allow the steam to continue to work on loosening up the food particles.  Open the door and pull out the bowl (use caution pulling it out because it will be very hot).  Remove the tray, wash it in the sink, and set it aside to dry.  As it is drying wipe down the inside of the microwave.  Put the tray back in place and now you have a beautifully cleaned microwave!  It only takes a few minutes, but it is super easy and makes the microwave look and smell so much better!

  • Spontaneous Tornadoes

    Spontaneous Tornadoes

It is amazing how quickly a mess can be made at home.  There are days when I work hard to clean up the house only to have it explode into a mess of toys, crafts, and random stuff within minutes.  Our children truly are a blessing in our lives and we love them dearly, however, they are known to make a mess.

How do we teach our children to be considerate of others by picking up their toys, papers, clothes, crafts, and whatever else they have gotten out?  We want our kids to have fun, play hard, and be creative, but does it need to end in a big mess?

    • Simplify Life – over the last few months it has occurred to me that we just have too much stuff.  I am thankful for the many blessings we have been given but the more we have the greater responsibility.  This is an area I am continuing to work on in our home.
    • Organization – by creating an organized system the kids will have a better idea of what is it be expected and where to put away their items.  For example, having a shoe basket inside the front door for them to put their shoes into when they walk in the door is a visual reminder for them to take off their shoes.  When they have a place or specific bins for the variety of toys it helps them know where to go both to play with an item and to put it away.  The expectation is clear and organization helps tremendously, although the Spontaneous Tornadoes will continue to happen from time to time putting these into place will cut down on the frequency of the tornadoes.
    • Communication – talking with the kids about why we need to pick up our toys, clothes and home.  Most of the time they will gladly pitch in and help pick up if you just ask nicely.  Setting a timer or making it into a game (see how much we can pick up in 10 minutes) will help get them motivated to do it too.
    • Actions Speak Louder – be an example to your kids…..this one can be a hard one.  Somehow my stuff gets spread out too!  If you have all your items all over the place then why should they be expected to pick up their toys, clothes, and miscellaneous items.  I realize that it’s impossible to keep everything perfect especially during a busy week and in a well loved home, but by setting aside a few minutes everyday and trying your best to maintain the home (and the items you are responsible for) shows the children what is expected of them.
    • Set Some Ground Rules – they want to do a craft?  Okay, that it fine with me, however, prior to moving onto the next craft or another avenue of play they must first pick up their current mess.  This helps them tidy up along the way so at the end of the day there are only a few items to put away instead of an massive explosion of toys, crafts, and other goodies (plus the glue gets put away instead spending hours drying out).  I try to always let them do crafts and creative play whenever possible, although I do occasionally need to remind them to go back and pick up something if they switch to another activity without cleaning up the previous one.   Thankfully, the kids are getting better at doing this and are needing less reminders, plus they know where items go so they can put everything away on their own without the help of the whole family (although we pitch in many times because that’s what families do for each other)!

I know Spontaneous Tornadoes will continue to invade our home via our children (and their parents) but with a little preparation and daily maintenance we should be able to keep them to a minimum.  There are days when we all take 15 minutes and pick up the house together.  When we are work together as a team it can go by quickly and shows the importance of everyone participating in the activity to get the work done.

Do you have Spontaneous Tornadoes in your home?  How do you help prevent from having too many?

  • Recipes: Easy Shepherd’s Pie

    P1300651c

The other day when I made Shepherd’s Pie for dinner I went ahead and made a big batch so I was able to make one casserole for dinner that night and put two in the freezer for busy nights later in the month.   The “Make 1 i& Freeze 1” recipes come in handy for those days when I cannot make a homemade meal from scratch.  It is great when I can plan ahead!  Shepherd’s Pie is not only easy to make it freezes well too.  The recipe below makes one 9×13 dish of Shepherd’s Pie, but I doubled it and split the second one into two 8×8 dishes to freeze for later.

    Shepherd’s Pie Recipe:

    • 1 pound Ground Beef cooked
    • 1 can Green Beans (used french cut, but any will do)
    • 1 can Mixed Vegetables
    • 1 can Black Beans
    • 1 package Brown Gravy
    • Mashed Potatoes (homemade or from package, your preference)

Cook the ground beef and drain the excess oil.  Add all the brown gravy ingredients to the ground beef mixture.  Drain the vegetables and gently mix in the green beans, mixed vegetables, and black beans.  Let the beef and vegetable mixture cook for 5 to 10 minutes, stirring periodically.  Preheat the oven to 350 degree and grease a 9×13 pan (or two 8×8 pans).

While cooking the ground beef and vegetable mixture start preparing your potatoes whether from scratch or from a box or bag. Once the potatoes and beef mixture is done you can put together your Shepherd’s Pie.  The bottom layer will be your beef and vegetable mixture followed by a layer of mash potatoes.  You can sprinkle bacon or cheese over the mash potato layer if you prefer as well.  Cover and bake the Shepherd’s Pie at 350 degrees for 30 minutes, uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes.

We ate one Shepherd’s Pie for dinner and these two (pictured above) are going in the freezer to be eaten at a later time!

  • Organized Chaos: Homework & Craft Supply Station

Our Homework & Craft Supply Station

We set up this cabinet in the dining room where we do the girls homework, crafts, and special projects.  It contains all the items we need right in one stop for their projects.  On the top is the pencils, pens, markers, scissors, staplers, tape, sticky notes, erasers, white out, glue sticks, binder clips, pencil sharpener, and paperclips.  Also, on top is the CD player for those days we just want to enjoy music while hanging out together in the dining room doing fun projects.  The middle section contains some more supplies.  The bottom section has larger supplies (construction paper, educational games, and more)!

A bunch of supplies in one spot and easy to get when needed!

    Homework Supply Holder

The girls have enjoyed having most of their items in one spot!

Homework and craft supplies are accessible.  Labeling the containers makes it much easier for everyone to know exactly which one to grab & it keeps the items in their proper place.

  • Organized Chaos: Easy DIY Headband Holder

    P1040337c

The headbands are now hung up in the girls closets so they can access them easily!

We have a lot of headbands in our house.  There are two girls in our home who wear headbands, however, it was getting to frustrating trying to figure out the best way to store all the headbands.  Just putting them into a storage box wasn’t working because it was a mess, headbands were getting broken, it is was impossible on a busy school morning to find a particular headband before rushing off to school.

I decided it was time to come up with a solution that would help keep the headbands organized.  The idea started while I was putting away a swimming noodle….  Which happened to be a good size to hang a headband on so I decided to give it a try.

The pile of headbands that need to be organized

    P1040299c

All you need is a thick noodle, hanger, headbands, and knife!

    P1040329c

Cut the noodle to fit inside your hanger.

    P1040321c

Slice one side of the noodle so you can slide it onto the hanger.  The thicker the noodle the better.

    P1040310c

Hang your headbands on the noodle and your done!

    P1040315cc

The headbands are ready to go into my daughters closet!

    P1040350c

We have used this headband holder / organizer for several months now and it works awesome!  Each girl has their own headband hanger on the back of their closet door so they can reach in and grab whatever headband they want to wear that day.

  • Love It – Neato XV Signature Pro Vacuum (Robotic Vacuum)

Neato XV Signature Pro Pet & Allergy Robot Vacuum Cleaner

Last year for Christmas my husband got me the most AMAZING gift ever!!! Seriously!!!  I LOVE our Neato XV Signature Pro!  It has been the best gift that continues to be a blessing in our busy household.

I never thought I would get so excited about a vacuum….until I had this one!  The Neato XV Signature Pro is a robot vacuum that has been a huge time saver for our family.  I absolutely love coming home to freshly vacuumed floors!  It makes me so happy!  🙂

If you are looking for the perfect Holiday, Birthday, Anniversary, Wedding, or another gift for that special someone I cannot recommend this vacuum enough.  We have been using it for a year now and it is still going strong as well as a huge help when it comes to cleaning around the house.

I have been asked for more information and some feedback from various family members, friends, and guests who have seen our vacuum!  I LOVE the Neato vacuum Jake got me for Christmas!  As long as the girls pick up their little items like toy necklaces, bouncy balls, etc…. it works beautifully.  Occasionally, it doesn’t make it all the way back to the charger, but that isn’t very often.

Jake did quite a bit of research prior to picking the vacuum he got for me – Neato website. He choose the Neato Signature vacuums because they are more advanced and have a more powerful motor than the other ones.  The ‘Signature” line is the one you’ll want to go for if you are looking at getting one.  He got the Neato XV Signature Pro for us which has been awesome!  The Signature ones only come in black.

The Neato XV Signature Pro has an extra brush and filter (which gives you two types of brushes) – it basically adds the Pet & Allergy Upgrade Kit, but really any the Signature vacuums would work because they have the better motors.

The Roomba’s are really popular too, but after reading a ton of reviews my husband went with the Neato (and I am glad he did).  Amazon has a lot of reviews which were really helpful if your trying to decide between different ones.I LOVE our vacuum!!!!  🙂

I am not sure how well it works on the hardwood floors, but it has been AMAZING on our floors (carpet, tile, and linoleum)!  It has worked awesome for the carpet.  The kitchen floor gets more stuff on it so I still have to spot clean, mop, and do the edges at times, but it gets the majority of items off the floor.  It does a great job downstairs on the tile too.  I still need to do the edges with a broom or vacuum every couple of weeks, but otherwise it does everything for me.  Occasionally, it will miss something, but overall it is pretty thorough. I love having clean floors!

The only real problem we’ve had so far is the first battery wouldn’t hold its charge for more than 30 minutes and it should last an hour or so.  We emailed them right away and got a new battery within a couple days.  Every once in awhile it will get stuck on an item (usually in the kids rooms) or lost, but that doesn’t happen very often.  I seriously have considered running it daily because I love having the clean floors.  Right now, we have it scheduled to vacuum 3 times a week, but you can have it vacuum any time in between those scheduled times as well.

It does take it longer to vacuum than if you did it yourself, but it saves you time in the long run because you don’t have to do it yourself.  If company is coming soon it would be quicker to do it by hand or better yet plan ahead to have your Neato XV Signature Pro vacuum earlier in the day so it is it clean before company arrives. One positive result so far – the girls have been keeping their rooms cleaner and more picked up because they don’t want “Runner, Runner” (the name given to our Neato vacuum) to eat their toys, ha!

I know you’d love it too!  It really is wonderful, now if we can only get a robot to cook meals, clean toilets, etc…!  Never thought I would be so excited about a vacuum cleaner, hehehe!  If you have any additional questions you can comment, contact me or check out the Neato website.

Honestly, the biggest negative is the initial cost of the vacuum.   However, if you are already in the market for a vacuum it really is worth it.  Also, I have seen it listed on “deal” sites and Amazon has been known to have it on sale as well.  If you have some Swagbucks accumulated you can use them to help purchase your Neato XV Signature Pro from Amazon too!

Hope you enjoy having freshly vacuumed floors as much as I do!  Now I am off to clean something else while our robot vacuum takes care of the floors for me!  Happy Cleaning!!!

“Love It” is a series of posts on items that I use regularly in my household that I love!  There are some items in our daily lives that make life more enjoyable, efficient, or just plain fun.  I will be sharing with you some of the products that have been given to us (or to me) that have made it to the top of my list.  It’s my way of giving a huge thumbs up!

  • 3D Printed: Vacuum Cleaner Attachment

    P1280071c

    My new vacuum cleaner attachment!

One of the cool and very practical items Jake has printed for me using his 3D printer is a vacuum cleaner attachment!  Yes, I know it is crazy to get excited about a vacuum cleaner attachment, but I do.  My husband knows me very well and this was a perfect gift to print!

The vacuum attachment works well to help easily empty out my household vacuum dirt bin.   The new 3D printed attachment is on the vacuum in the garage and when my regular house vacuum dirt bin is full all I have to do it put the container up to the attachment, turn on the garage vacuum, and it is completely cleaned out.  No more taking apart the dirty vacuum bin to empty it into a trash can and trying to get out the carpet fuzz or random items that like to get stuck in the corners of the bin. It is a quick, easy, and less messy way to empty my vacuum dirt bin!  Thankful for my husband and his thoughtfulness.

Who knew you could print the perfect vacuum cleaner attachment?  Awesome!
