Introducing……the Newest Members of Our Family – “Shipwreck” & “Overboard”
Our newest family members “Shipwreck” and “Overboard”
When we first moved into our house (almost 10 years ago) we set up a fish tank and put in two red ear slider turtles. One was called “Slider” and the other was named “Rigel”. They lived for about 8 years each. It has been almost 2 years since we have had little friends in that fish tank. My neighbor had mentioned several times that I need to go by the Wednesday Pickens County Jockey Lot sometime. I had a Wednesday off one cold and rainy day so I decided that it would be the day to check it out. That’s when I found these two little guys, the only thing I bought that day.
Karlie & Brina get to pick out 1 box to open…..they have to use their “reading” skills to chose the best option!
When the girls came home from school we had two boxes on the kitchen floor one had the word “turtle” written on the top and the other one had the word “nothing”. After their homework they had the opportunity to pick which box they wanted to open for their surprise. They were able to sound out the words and decided to pick the one marked “turtle”.
The girls decided to pick the box marked “turtle”, good choice kiddos!
Peeking into the box to see what is in the box……followed by squeals of delight!
“Shipwreck” and “Overboard” in their little tank
When I brought the turtles home they were the size of a quarter.
Trying to escape already
The girls were excited to see the new family members. It took us a couple weeks before we came up with their names but everyone agreed on “Shipwreck” and “Overboard”. It has been quite entertaining to have these two little guys around. They have a lot of personality and are constantly re-arranging their tank.
Game: “Wits & Wagers Family” by North Star Games
Are you looking for a great family game? Awhile ago our family received the game Wits & Wages as a birthday gift, since then we had played the game MANY times. So much that several our family and friends have purchased the game as well for their families. We were over….the…top….excited to receive Wits & Wagers Family by North Star Games to play!
Our family has enjoyed playing the Wits & Wagers Family game together. It is a wonderful family friendly trivia game that is fun for the entire family. The four of us played several rounds over the last month with each game being about 30 minutes long. The recommended ages for the game is 8 and up but our girls (who are 7) had a blast playing it too.
We have the original Wits & Wagers game and felt like the Wits & Wagers Family was geared more to a younger audience. The questions were easy enough for the kids to answer, but were not so easy that the adults knew all the answers. The topics were about items that appealed to kids as well. For example, a couple of the questions were along the lines of “How many colors of Fruit Loop cereal are there?” or “In feet how wide is the pitchers mound?”
The game is lighthearted and full of fun facts. You don’t need to know all the right answers in order to score some points. In Wits & Wagers Family you can only gain positive points with your “Meoples” and for having the closest answer without going over which makes it easier for the younger kids who are playing the game. I love that the game encourages you to learn some interesting facts which makes it educational for the whole family. The game is fairly quick, enjoyable, and almost anyone can play it.
The only thing that I was surprised about with this game is the amount of questions. The original Wits & Wagers has 7 questions and answers per card (which we went through fairly quickly because we played the game often) with Wits & Wagers Family there are only 2 questions and answers per card so you go through the deck much faster. I think offering an expansion pack with more questions would provide additional value to this game.
This game has provided a lot of great entertainment for our family. It has been wonderful being able to sit down after dinner and play a round of Wits & Wagers Family together. The time spent playing this game with our family has allowed us to create memories while while helping us unwind, laugh, and relax after our busy days.
If you are looking for a game that the whole family will enjoy you should check out Wits & Wagers Family or better yet come on over and play a round with us. The rounds go pretty fast and you may be surprised at how much you’ll learn. Who knows…..you may even find yourself having a little fun along the way! 🙂
You can purchase this game at major retailers like Books-A-Million, Target, or local game stores found on North Star Games retailer locator. Be My Valentine: “Love Bug” Notes
Little ladybug “love” notes in the girls school lunches
The girls love getting surprises in their lunch boxes. I found these adorable ladybug notes (aka “love bug” notes in our house) and waited until I had a coupon to buy them at our local Hallmark store. It is my intention to send a special note or treat with the girls lunches at least once a week (on a good week I do it 2 or 3 times). In a time pinch I put these fun bugs on their sandwich containers or random places in their lunch.
Fun note to remind the girls we love them
Not only do these notes brighten the girls days it also encourages them to read. The notes are cute and it only takes a minute to add them to their lunch box.
Karlie’s Note – Buzzing by to say….. Consider yourself HUGGED! Squeeeeeeeeze
Karlie has been known to keep her “love” notes in her lunch box for weeks. She gets so excited about the little notes that sometimes when I ask her how her day went the first thing she tells me about is the “love bug” she found in her lunch.
Brina’s Note – A little buggy told me you’ve been working really hard. You should feel so proud!
Brina loves getting these notes in her lunch so much that she has a baggie full of them in her “special” drawer at home. I know the girls appreciate these small reminders of our love.
I love having these on hand to add a little bit of variety to the special surprises. You could pick up these or something similar at your local Hallmark store or find some online to print off or make up some of your own to print off. What type of goodies do you put in your kids lunch boxes?
Be My Valentine: Valentine Cake Batter Rice Krispies
Valentine Cake Batter Rice Krispie Treats
The girls have to bring a goody for their school Valentine’s Day party. When I asked them what they wanted me to buy or make they both said to bring the Valentine’s Cake Batter Rice Krispie treats with “extra sprinkles”! I made this recipe earlier for another event so they were excited to try it out before their party.
Heart shaped Cake Batter Rice Krispie Treats with sprinkles
The girls loved making this little Valentine Rice Krispies. We added a little bit of cake batter, a drop of red food coloring, and some sprinkles than used cookie cutters to make the hearts.
Having fun making designs with the Valentine Cake Batter Rice Krispie hearts
We had fun making different designs with the treats. Their favorite design was the flower. Since we were taking them to more than one party we were able to have some fun getting creative with the treats.
Rice Krispie Hearts of different sizes
The big heart cookie cutter was cute, but we did more of the small heart to make sure everyone had a rice krispie treat to enjoy. Thankful that the girls requested a pretty easy treat to share with their friends. Do you have to bring treats for your kids classroom?

I think it is important to share and encourage each other as we seek to improve our lives and the lives of those around us. I want to live intentionally not just hope all my dreams and goals come true. When I focus on small steps of improvement I am able to see results as I get closer to my goals. Some weeks I get closer to the goals I have in my life and other weeks a take a few steps back (life happens, emergencies occur, people get sick). Once the goals are written down and shared it provides a guideline for what I aim to accomplish this week.
Why Share My Goals?
- To keep me accountable
- To share a piece of my life with you as I strive to be a better Child of God, Wife, Mom, Friend, Homemaker, Entrepreneur and the many other roles I have each week
- To have my goals consistently written down so I can gauge progress more accurately
- Create healthy habits in my life
- To encourage you to share your goals with me as you continue to grown and learn
How did you do this week on your goals? Feel free to share or link to your list of weekly goals.

Book: “Everything Romance” by Todd Hafer
Any time is the perfect time to celebrate with the ones you love! With Valentine’s Day celebrations around corner I thought I would share with you a book I recently read called Everything Romance by Todd Hafer. The book is packed full of great quotes, recipes and information. It has plenty of great ideas to get your creative juices flowing for your upcoming Date Night, Valentine’s Day, Honeymoon, Anniversary or any other fun celebration with your spouse. You will get a wonderful variety of romantic inspiration from the book through:
- Blessings & Prayers
- Did You Know? (fun love facts)
- Features (Conversation Starters and More)
- Lists (such as Creative Ways to say “I Love You”)
- Love Boosters & Love Busters
- Love Letters (from famous people like Mark Twain and more)
- Perfect Pairs & Famous Quotes
- Poetry & Poets
- Special Recipes
- Gift Ideas & Love Stories
- Scripture Verses, Trivia and More!
I thought this book was great reminder of how important it is that we spend time with our spouse. Going on a Date Night even after your married helps keep you connected. The book has a lot of different ideas. My suggestion is take the ones that work well for your marriage and implement them. There is plenty of fun activities to try and inspirational sayings to get you started. I especially enjoyed the love quotes and the recipes. The top 100 lists for Love Songs and Romantic Movies are wonderful starting points for Date Night ideas.
I haven’t had a chance to try all the recipes but here are a few fun ones:
- Berry Sweet Breakfast Parfaits for Two
- Lip Smackin’ Spicy Lime Popcorn
- Smooth Operator Blue Smoothie
- Perfect Pair Pizza Pita Snacks
If you need some great ideas for the upcoming Valentine’s Day celebration or more ideas for your Date Nights I would recommend checking this book out. Everything Romance would be a neat Valentine or Anniversary gift for your spouse. You could read through the book together or use it to help plan out your next date night.
I think investing time and energy into our marriage is important. While I may not be inspired by every story, quote, or activity in the book I believe the author did a good job of putting a great mix of ideas so each person can pull their favorites out for them to implement or enjoy. The book was a fun one for me to read and I appreciate a book that focuses on building better relationships! I am already looking forward to our next Date Night! 🙂

Be My Valentine: Sweetheart Sandwich
Valentine Heart Sandwich for the Brina’s lunch box
It is a lot of fun putting in something different into the girls lunch box. Around the Holidays and whenever I get the urge I do a special surprise in their lunch boxes. I typically do at least one special lunch box note or shape or treat a week, occasionally they get a few extras squeezed in when I have the time and creative juices flowing. In honor of the upcoming Valentine’s Day Holiday I put a heart PB&J sandwich in their lunches.
It an easy way to show the girls that I am thinking about them and care, plus they had a blast showing off their heart sandwich at lunch time to their friends! The majority of evenings if we have time I have the girls at least start putting together their lunches. Many nights they make the PB&J sandwiches themselves. Yes, they are messier and probably use more peanut butter and jelly but they enjoy pitching in and helping put together their lunches. Also, lunch making time gives us a few extra minutes of productivity and socializing together in the kitchen. Sometimes after they finish their lunches I will sneak in a note or something special other times I am making the lunches so I will add a special Momma’s touch.
All you have to do for this simple treat is make your peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Use a cookie cutter to make the shape you want. Put it in a container or sandwich bag and it is ready for them to discover the next day at lunch.
Heart shaped cookie cutter that I used for their PB&J sandwiches!
Karlie’s sweetheart surprise sandwich!
Family Fun: Getting a Little Fresh Air
Brina swinging on the jungle gym
One of the best parts about the warm sunny days when they hit in the middle of winter is the family can go outside and get some fresh air. Since it is the season of colds and sickness the fresh air is wonderful for everyone. We try to let the girls get some play time outside when the weather permits and we even join in on the fun. Whether it is pushing one of the girls on the swings or playing catch it is important that we spend some time relaxing together.

Thankful for the warm and sunny days in South Carolina as well as the opportunity to spend some extra time with my family! 🙂
