Fresh & Healthy: Halloween School Lunch
Every year for Halloween I try to spruce up the girls lunch. I try to put little goodies in their box that are fun for celebrating the Holiday. The girls always enjoy their special school lunch too. I typically use items that they would normally have for lunch and wrap them in special bags, boxes, or use Halloween duct tape.
Lunch Goodies:
- 1 container Taco Lasagna
- 1 “Trick or Treat” box with Pretzels
- 1 “Caution” Fruit Punch Juice Box
- 1 “Spider” Applesauce
- 1 Halloween bag of Baby Carrots
- 1 “Candy Corn” box Craisins
- 1 Water Bottle
They enjoyed their special Halloween school lunch. Love being able to give them something different for their lunch on Halloween.

Fresh & Healthy: First Day of School Lunch Box Meals
Karlie and Brina’s lunch for the first day of school
Another school year has started…..we had a blast this summer. Their school lunch boxes are metal with a chalkboard on the inside so I can write them a message. For the first day I wrote “Happy First Day of School Brina & Karlie. We love you!” The girls pack a lunch Monday through Thursday on Friday they eat their lunch at school as a special treat. Most days the girls pack their own lunches but with the first week being so busy I got them started until they adjust to the new schedule. Each day they get a protein, fruit, vegetable, dairy, drink, and snack (sometimes I will through in an extra snack or treat if I know we have activities after school).
Karlie’s lunch box has a shiny red race car with her name on the car and tracks
Brina’s lunch box is covered in hearts and her favorite colors (orange and pink)!
Each lunch box has their design and names on both the font and back as well as the sides (see picture at bottom for the side view). The lunch boxes were a “surprise” for the girls. They were thrilled to get these to use for school. I was pleased with how they turned out too.

School Lunchbox Meals
Part of the problem with doing lunchbox meals everyday is making sure you have a variety of ways to not only keep it appealing but also healthy for your family. The girls love getting “surprises” in their lunchboxes. Every once in awhile I will stick something special in their lunches that I find to keep it healthy and fun.
- Peanut Butter and Homemade Strawberry Jam
- Fresh Pepper Strips
- Fresh Green Grapes
- Gold Fish
- Cherry Jello
- Vanilla Yogurt
- Chocolate Covered Cherries
- Mrs. Fields Oatmeal Cookie & Chocolate Covered Raisins

Packing lunches for the kids
Fresh & Healthy: Lunch Box Meals
Lunch box meals for the kids school lunch.
Our girls are starting to get more efficient in packing their lunches. Yes, they are a little more generous with the peanut butter or meat on their sandwiches (but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing). It works best for us if we pre-pack the majority of the items for the girls lunches (and any work lunches) the evening before. After packing the next days lunches we put them into the refrigerator so we can grab them, pop in an ice pack and go the next day.
- Ham & Cheese Sandwich
- Fresh Green Beans
- Pita Chips
- Vanilla or Peach Yogurt
- Strawberry or Lemon Jello
- Homemade Applesauce
- Reduced Sugar Fruit Juice
- Homemade Cookies
Homemade applesauce and fresh green beans are one of the girls favorites to take to school.
