Flashback Friday: Fun at Home
Karlie loves hanging out in the Johnny Jump Up and playing with the toys, however, she would prefer spinning over jumping.
Today’s Flashback Friday takes us back to September 2005 when the girls were 7 months old. We spent a lot of time at home when the girls were younger. It was a lot of work to take them out every day and since they were still small they were more likely to pick up germs we tried to keep our errands, doctors appointments, and activities to a minimum at least during the first few months.
We had a lot of fun hanging out at home. They loved to play, laugh, and explore. The weekends and evenings were their favorite times of the week because Daddy was home to play with them. They love their Daddy and always give him a winning smile. He was great pitching in whenever possible with the kids. They were used to having both of us feed, change, and play with them at various times throughout the week sometimes together and other times just one of us.

Karlie didn’t see me walk into the room and I startled her. Love the expression on her face.

It makes my neck hurt just looking at her sleeping in this position. Brina would literally jump until she crash. This does not look like the most comfy position to take a nap in though kiddo.
They think “Little Lamb” is hilarious!

Travel & Vacation: Homewood Suites & Paddington Movie (Atlanta, GA)
Swimming at the pool
On a recent trip to Atlanta, Georgia we stayed at the Homewood Suites. The girls were begging to go swimming so on the first day we were there we wrapped up early and headed back to the hotel so they could swim. It was in the high 70’s that day, however, they had just filled the pool a couple days before we arrived so the water was freezing cold. Both kids got into the pool, but Brina was done after a few minutes. Karlie stayed in a little longer, although it wasn’t much fun swimming by herself. The entire time we were at the hotel we didn’t see one other person in the pool….I wonder why?!
Since we scrapped our pool time activity we decided to look for some other activities that we could do together that night. We headed back to the room to re-group and figure out what we wanted to do that evening. While the girls got dressed Jake and I made dinner in the hotel room. It was nice having one with a fridge, sink, dishwasher, microwave, and oven so we could eat at the hotel!
Jake found a movie theater nearby where you can get movie tickets for $3 each and they were showing some good kids movies so we decided to check it out. It was only a few miles away inside a open shopping mall and market. We chose to watch the movie Paddington with the girls at the Venture Theater.
It was a cute movie. I seriously cannot remember the last time our family went to the movie theater so this was a special treat for the kids. Usually it is so expensive just to go to the movies so we usually wait until it comes out on video. It was a nice activity for the four of us and only cost $12! The kids enjoyed the movie. Jake and I had a couple good laughs too. Thankful for a fun evening with the family. Sometimes even the best of plans don’t go as expected so it’s always a good idea to have a Plan B.
Ready for the movie to start
Karlie is focused
Our kids typically don’t sleep in very late so one morning after breakfast we spent some time playing games until the place we were going to that day opened. During the evenings after dinner if we had time and everyone wasn’t too tired we would play some card games too. It’s always a good idea to bring card games because you never know when you’ll have a few minutes of down time to relax and have fun.

It didn’t take them long to crash after a fun filled day in Atlanta!
The “Travel and Vacation” series is an insight into our trips together as a family and ways we relax. Life is short and we were thrilled to have the opportunity to build memories with family and explore of of the most amazing places during our time away. Explore with a good attitude, look for fun, and it will be an awesome trip jammed packed with positive memories. It is refreshing having some time away from the regular routine. Make it a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet new people and learn. You just might see or try something new that takes your breath away!
Wishing You A Very Happy Easter!
Wishing you a very Happy Easter!
The girls have been off this week for Spring Break. Yay! It has been wonderful having extra time with the kids! Thankful for an opportunity to celebrate this amazing Holiday. While there are a lot of fun events and activities around the Easter Holidays the real meaning of Easter goes a long way back in time. Easter is the day we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. I am grateful for a Savior who conquered death. So many reasons to be thankful this Holiday Season!
Sweet sisters!
Flashback Friday: Welcome Home Girls
Girls packed up and ready to leave the hospital NICU and go home for the first time!
Today’s Flashback Friday is the girls last day in NICU as they are bundled up and ready to come home. They spent about a month in the hospital NICU. The main reason they were there so long is that they were growing and learning how to suck and swallow. They weren’t as excited about coming home as we were, ha! By the time we got them bundled up in their carseats they were ready for a nap. Thankful for the amazing nurses, doctors, and people who helped us during our stay in NICU.
My parents and two youngest brothers were visiting the week that the girls came home from NICU. It was nice having the extra help around the house and with the girls. Thankful that we were able to get settled into home even if that meant we were on house arrest for the next few months. They were itty-bitty when they were born (Brina 4.9 and Karlie 3.15)!
Welcome Home sign hung up on the front porch with Dargo sitting on the porch waiting for us to come home.
First nap together in their crib – Brina on left and Karlie on the right!

Heart Reflections: Spending One-On-One With Each Kid
I cannot remember how old the girls were when we started with official Date Nights, but we always tried to make sure we had one-on-one time with each child even when they were little. That could mean taking one child to the grocery store while Daddy reads to the one at home. Now that the girls are older we give them several Date Night options that appeal to them.
We do a mix of “Home Date Nights” and “Out on the Town Date Nights” to help make it more cost effective for the family. Most months we swap, usually one of us goes out with one child and the other stays home (great chance to watch a movie or do puzzles, play a game or build a castle out of legos). The date nights with the kids give us time to have fun, make memories, and opens up a multitude of opportunities to have some heart to heart conversations with our kids.
Also, it is very important that your children see you and your spouse go on Date Nights and have fun together too. Usually when Jake and I go out the girls want to make sure that their “turn” is coming up soon! Thankful for time to spend with my family!
Today is Going to be…..
Travel & Vacation: Charleston Trip
Had to stop on one of the road trips because someone was getting car sick…..Daddy taking her for a walk to get some fresh air. Poor kiddo!
She hasn’t gotten car sick for quite awhile, but on one of our trips recently she started getting queasy. Stopping for a little bit of fresh air for a few minutes seemed to do the trick.
Found a cool tree house on Daniel’s Island, great place to play and have a picnic!

Hanging out at the turtle park
Pool time! Karlie holding her breath under the water!

Is it me or does the road seem to end in the sky? Actually this is one of our favorite bridges near Daniel’s Island.

Song: “The Blessing” by Dennis Jernigan
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vdn5EtyKXiI
I was thinking about the wonderful Christmas Season that we just celebrated with our family when I came across this song. The song is about having a relationship with Him. It is a great reminder as well as a peaceful and encouraging song.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving!
May you have a truly amazing day with your family and friends. I am thankful for the many wonderful blessings in my life. I love this quote because even during the difficult times there is “always something to be thankful for”. What a great reminder not just for Thanksgiving Day but for everyday of our lives!
Travel & Vacation: Enjoying Charleston’s Piers
The boats are getting loaded up at the end of the pier.
They would run down the sand picking up pieces to eat and then would run back up the beach when the wave came in. It was neat to watch the wave of crabs running back and forth. We were standing on the edge of the pier these little crabs were scurrying back and forth with the tide coming in. The girls thought it was hilarious.
Love seeing the thoughtfulness and compassion in this sweet girl. She truly does care about others and wants everyone to have fun together.
Karlie noticed that Brina and I were still coming up the pier so she decided to check out what we were up to. When did my babies grown up? So excited yet sad to see how much they have changed even over the past year.
The girls thought it was a little scary at the end of the pier, but thought it was super cool looking at the bridge.
The girls had a race down the pier. They were running and giggling the whole way. It’s amazing how educational and entertaining time at the pier can be for the kids!
