Blessing Lives Everyday with Special Surprises (B.L.E.S.S.): 25 Days of Christmas Blessings (Week 4)
We had a blast playing the 5 Second Rule game by Patch with extended family today!
We just finished our fourth and final short week of 25 Days of Christmas B.L.E.S.S. (Blessing Lives Everyday with Special Surprises). It was a really busy week and I didn’t have as much time to take pictures (and a couple of the ones I took didn’t turn out). It has been an awesome doing the daily activities and finding ways to be a blessing to those we meet. Seriously, I feel like we walk away from an activity feeling more blessed then we did going into it because it is so much fun bringing cheer to the people around us. What a joy it has been participating in intentional acts of kindness during the Holiday Season.
In some cases we get to see who receives our B.L.E.S.S. gift and in other cases we will never know who is on the receiving end. We pray that whoever receives or finds these gifts will experience joy during this Holiday Season. Each night we take down the B.L.E.S.S. activity for the next day and read the verse and the activity then pray for those who have and will receive our little BLESS’ings. Throughout the week we also try to find additional ways to brighten people’s days so sometimes we do multiply activities during the day.
Our B.L.E.S.S. Activity Adventures:
- Day 22 – went to the store to purchase a couple items for Christmas Dinner. Spent some time talking with the cashier and person bagging our groceries, including asking them about their families and Christmas plans. She thanked us for waiting to check out and for asking about her family.
- Day 23 – went to church with the family and ran a few errands afterward. We were able to run in and pick up a couple things we needed, but towards the end of our errands Jake got a phone call from work and had to head home to handle some work issues. Every where we went we made a point to smile at everyone we met and ask them how they are doing. A smile and kindness will go a long way during a busy day.
- Day 24 – was able to spend some time with extended family today. We ate a delicious dinner, played, and had the kids exchange gifts. Thankful for our family and the opportunity to spend time together. Sometimes the best gift or blessing you can give to others is the gift of time.
Shortbread cookies ready to go into the oven!
- Day 25 – Enjoyed some time with my family. I actually didn’t go out at all on Christmas Day so today I decided to make a special treat for my sweet, hardworking, kind, loving husband. I am thankful for him and all he does for our family. He is my best friend and I always love my time with him. I made him one of his favorite Christmas cookies – shortbread (with sprinkles on top)! 🙂
It has been a lot of fun working on ways we can be a blessing to others. This verse talked about “humility” which can be difficult at times because sometimes we want people to notice us. We talked about why it is important to demonstrate humility. One of the ways we decide to practice humility was by leaving gifts anonymously if we don’t know who was on the receiving end of the B.L.E.S.S. it is a lot easier to not be proud. We all agree that leaving “surprise” gifts are one of our favorite activities because we completely leave-it-up-to-God to choose the person to get the blessing.
It is fun be to be a blessing to others not because we anticipate any rewards or benefits from it, but because we were given the greatest gift of all. God’s love, grace, and mercy. He wants us to give cheerfully from the heart.
I am super excited to see how great this B.L.E.S.S. activity is going already. It has been a true joy sharing with others (many of whom we’ll never meet). It has been a great experience and I look forward to seeing what will happen with our fun adventures this week.
The main purpose of this activity is to teach our family the joy of giving and sharing to those around us. I plan to do another update on our fun B.L.E.S.S. adventures next week. Sometimes it’s the little stuff that can make the most positive impact. I would love to hear how you are spreading the Christmas cheer this Holiday Season.

Gifts for the girls teachers
We are into our third week of 25 Days of Christmas B.L.E.S.S. (Blessing Lives Everyday with Special Surprises). Karlie wanted to leave her dollar and card inside the candle holder box at the store.
Here is what we have done so far and a couple pictures to share of our adventures:
While the little one was taking a nap the older 3 cousins did their Gingerbread and Christmas Tree Craft together
- Day 15 – Spent time watching my two nephews while my brother worked and my sister-in-law had Christmas program practice at our church. The girls had a blast with the boys. We played cars, built with legos, did a craft, ate a snack, and more fun stuff during the morning they were with us. The girls played really well and were very willing to help their cousin start to get the peels off the stickers.
Gingerbread men goody bags to hand out to classmates
- Day 16 – We picked up and put together items for the girls school Christmas Party. They will share these goodies with their classmates. Both were very excited to share with their friends. Some of the items they picked up were cookies, cupcakes, grapes, carrots, pencils, stencils, twizzlers, stickers, balls, and a couple other some things.
As we were sticking a deposit in our banks night drop box with left a note and candy cane for the next person!
- Day 17 – Since we had a make a trip to the bank on the way home from another activity we decided to spread a little cheer by sticking a note and candy cane on the night drop box to be a blessing to the next person who drove through.
Brina placed her dollar to share in the craft section at Dollar Tree
- Day 18 –The girls went with me for a quick trip to Dollar Tree. On the way to the store we discussed our B.L.E.S.S. activity and prayed that it would be an encouragement to someone today. Brina chose to leave her dollar in the craft section at Dollar Tree. Karlie’s location surprised me a little more, she wanted to leave it in the candle section so an adult would find it. She also decided that it would be best to leave the dollar folded so the person that found it would see the note and know that it is ok to take the dollar.
Left a note and candy cane on the pump at the gas station
- Day 19 –The girls and I were filling up with gas earlier this week. They decided it would be a great place to leave a candy cane surprise for someone else. So we taped a note and candy cane to the pump. As we were pulling out of the gas station both girls and I each prayed that God would lead the perfect person to it when they went to fill up with gas. (a neat side story…..the person who received the note, Mary, contacted us to say “thank you”! What a blessing it was to find out that we were able to brighten her day!)
Christmas goodies packed up in the box for the teacher (a picture of the outside of the boxes is at the beginning of the post)
- Day 20 – We wrapped up some goodies to give to the teachers for Christmas. The girls picked out some of the items they wanted to give their teachers. They gave Hand Sanitizer, Clorox Wipes, a box of Kleenex, Glue Sticks, Fresh Citrus Christmas Potpourri, and a Christmas Card with a photo.
Left a Christmas Card and a bundle of Fresh Citrus Christmas Potpourri for our mailman
- Day 21 – We left a Christmas Card and gift for our mailman. He always delivers our mail with a smile. Whenever he has a package to bring to the front porch asks how the kids are doing and stops to pet Skipper. We’ve had the same mailman since we moved here over 10 years ago so he has delivered a lot of items to our house! We are thankful for the people we have gotten to know a little better over the years.
One of our favorite verses this week went along with our Day 17 activity.
With all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love. – Ephesians 4:2
It has been a lot of fun working on ways we can be a blessing to others. This verse talked about “humility” which can be difficult at times because sometimes we want people to notice us. We talked about why it is important to demonstrate humility. Twizzlers and pencils are ready to be packed for the girls class party!

Fresh Citrus Christmas Potpourri wrapped up and given to friends & neighbors this week
We into our second week of 25 Days of Christmas B.L.E.S.S. (Blessing Lives Everyday with Special Surprises). It has been a lot of fun doing the daily activities and doing our best to be a blessing to those we meet. Seriously, I feel like we walk away from an activity feeling more blessed then we did going into it. What a joy it has been participating in intentional acts of kindness during the Holiday Season.

Gift bags full of goodies for our Community Group members
Here is what we have done so far and a couple pictures to share of our adventures:
- Day 8 – Gave a donation to the Salvation Army at a local Big Lots store. Brina was the one with me when we put the money into the red container. It was a great opportunity to discuss what Salvation Army was and why they collect money during this time of year.
Fresh Christmas Potpourri gift
- Day 9 – Put together little gifts (Fresh Christmas Potpourri and a bag of Chocolates) for the families within our Community Group and delivered them at our Christmas Social. Thankful for the neat people God has placed in our group this year.
Brina and Karlie helping me put away all the AWESOME food families donated during the Awana Food Drive. The pantries are restocked and ready to be a blessing to people within our community. Thankful for the girls help getting everything put away (love those chickadees)!
- Day 10 – Organized and put away food items into the Alms & Legs Food Pantry after the Awana Food Drive. I was SUPER EXCITED to see the cabinets full again! Praying that the food will be a huge blessing on the lives of those who need it.
- Day 11 – Brought a bag with goodies to the tutor for Christmas to brighten her day and spread some cheer.
Lasagna, garlic bread & Coke are in the van and on their way to a friend
- Day 12 – Made and delivered a meal to a friend to help out. The girls had a lot of fun delivering the meal and playing for a few minutes with their friends. Praying for our dear friend as she is going through radiation while trying to take care of her family, we hope the meal was a blessing to them this week.
One of the baskets full of goodies for our neighbors
- Day 13 – Delivered Christmas goodies to our neighbors. I made Fresh Christmas Potpourri and homemade sweet treats! The girls look forward to this activity. The have a lot of fun delivering the gifts and catching up for a few minutes with each neighbor. Thankfully our neighborhood is fairly small so we had plenty of time to do it in the afternoon after school.
- Day 14 – While at KMart checking out I was talking with the cashier asking about her day, if she was ready for Christmas, and such. Through the conversation I found out that she is a single Mom with a girl the same age as my girls. I felt led to be a blessing to her. Even though I paid cash for the transaction I told her to keep the change (which wasn’t a lot) and put it towards something little for her girl this Christmas. Even though Jake has to travel sometimes I am very grateful for him and everything he does for our family, I cannot imagine how busy it must be as a single Mom.
One of our favorite verses this week went along with our Day 13 activity.
This is my commandment, that you have love one another as I have loved you. – John 15:12
It has been a lot of fun working on ways we can be a blessing to others. This verse talked about “loving others” which can be difficult at times because some people are just hard to get a long with. We talked about why it is important to show love and compassion to those around us. The girls decided that when we find it hard to love someone we should ask Jesus for help and to adjust our attitude towards that person because there are many days we are not lovely people ourselves yet God always loves us.
It is fun be to be a blessing to others not because we anticipate any rewards or benefits from it, but because we were given the greatest gift of all. God’s love, grace, and mercy. He wants us to give cheerfully from the heart.
Basket full of goodies to deliver with the meal on day 12 – Rice Krispy treats, fruit salad, lettuce salad, and a box of Angry Bird fruit snacks!
I am super excited to see how great this B.L.E.S.S. activity is going already. It has been a true joy sharing with others (many of whom we’ll never meet). It has been a great experience and I look forward to seeing what will happen with our fun adventures this week.
Neighbors gifts are ready to be hand delivered! The girls LOVE delivering the gifts and catching up for a few minutes with the neighbors!

Blessing Lives Everyday with Special Surprises (B.L.E.S.S.): 25 Days of Christmas Blessings (Week 1)
The girls picked up Pop-Up Christmas Stickers to give out to kids!
We have officially started our 25 Days of Christmas B.L.E.S.S. (Blessing Lives Everyday with Special Surprises) and in all honesty I think we have been blessed more by doing these activities. It has been a real joy doing these fun events everyday and it has been a great experience again this year.
Our Christmas Pop-Up Stickers and B.L.E.S.S. card in a “penguin” bag so we can hand them out easier!
Here is what we have done so far and a couple pictures to share of our adventures:
- Day 1 – Handed out “pop-up” Christmas stickers to people we encountered throughout our day, including while we were running errands. The girls even saw a couple of friends that day to give the stickers to as well (they were so excited). The stickers they picked out were pretty neat, they have something like a little bubble under each one and when you pushed it down it would pop up within a few seconds making a little clicking noise (quite fascinating for all the kids). Loved watching the girls give out the stickers and demonstrate how they work.
- Day 2 – I had to make a trip to CVS Pharmacy to pick up some items. Since I was in no hurry I decided to let the person behind me in line go first. She seemed to have a lot of her mind and was in a hurry that day. She was super sweet and thanked me several times for letting her go ahead of me.
Donating to the Food Pantry
- Day 3 – Picked out items to donate to our Church’s Alms & Legs Food Pantry. The girls Awana is doing a food drive this upcoming Sunday. The Food Pantry helps people in the local community who are in need of food and encouragement.
Sharing some Pampers diapers and Clorox wipes
- Day 4 – The girls were super excited to bring a pack of Pampers diapers and a container of Clorox wipes to our Doctors appointment today. The Doctor, and his wife, recently had their first baby so we all thought it would be something practical we could share with them. Brina loved bringing in the diapers and Karlie thought the wipes were an excellent idea especially with all the germs that are around during the Christmas Holidays.
- Day 5 – While I was at the store today picking up items I noticed there were no carts in the store because they were all sitting on the sidewalks outside the store. I decided to gather up as many carts as I could and take them back into the store. It didn’t take much of my time yet it not only helped the store but those wanting to purchase items while they were there.
Some of the goodies we have picked up for Country Santa this year
- Day 6 – We picked out and donated gifts to Country Santa today which gives Christmas presents to local children who would otherwise have no gifts at Christmas. The girls love giving to Country Santa because they get to help make another kid(s) Christmas special. We pray that these gifts will be a to blessing to the kids that will receive these gifts for Christmas.
Heart of Christmas – Toothbrushes, Toothpastes, and Pants
- Day 7 – Picked up hot pink Junior Pants for a sweet girl, 7 tubes of Toothpaste, and 7 Toothbrushes to donate to the “Heart of Christmas” event. Our Church collects items for kids in our local schools who need clothing and hygiene items. Since we were sick last Sunday we were not able to sign up directly, but when I emailed the person coordinating the event she said that these 15 items were still needed
One of our favorite verses this week went along with our Day 6 activity.
Give and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you. – Luke 6:38
It has been a lot of fun working on ways we can be a blessing to others. This verse talked about “giving” so it was a great one to discuss with the kids. We talked about why it is important to share, give, and be to be a blessing to others not because we anticipate any rewards from it or benefits from it, but because we were given the greatest gift of all. God’s love, grace, and mercy. He wants us to give cheerfully from the heart.
Hot pink pants wrapped up with some extra goodies to be given to a teenager in our community through “Heart of Christmas”
I am super excited to see how great this B.L.E.S.S. activity is going already. It has been a true joy sharing with others (many of whom we’ll never meet). It has been a great experience and I look forward to seeing what will happen with our fun adventures this week.

Blessing Lives Everyday with Special Surprises (B.L.E.S.S.): 25 Days of Christmas Blessings
Yesterday, we wrapped up our November 30-30-30 Challenge: Saying Thanks 30 Ways to 30 People for 30 Days, which was a great experience for the whole family. It was a blast finding different ways to say thanks and showing appreciation to many people over the entire month of November. I think in a lot of ways we felt even more appreciative of the little things in life while we were doing this activity.
Now we’re gearing to start our December activity, 25 Days of Christmas Blessings. Last year was the first year we did it and I really think it will become a family tradition because it was such a big hit with our family. I am super excited to start our Holiday B.L.E.S.S. activity and to find new ways we can be a blessing to others throughout this Christmas season.
It is easy to get caught up with the shopping, parties, celebrations, and everything else that we lose sight of what’s really important. I want the girls to experience the joy of giving and helping those around us so we are delivering special surprises over the next 25 days. I came up with the acronym B.L.E.S.S. to help remind us why we are sharing these little blessings.
- Blessing
- Lives
- Everyday with
- Special
- Surprises
The plan is to deliver a small special surprise to at least one person every day from December 1st to December 25th. Each bag contains an activity to spread cheer and a scripture verse to discuss. At dinner we will discuss our current days activity, pray for the people that received our gift, and get our bag for the next day. The girls and I have came up with a lot of great ideas of ways we can share blessings with people around us (some will go for people we know and others to complete strangers or people we will never meet).
Here’s how we put our B.L.E.S.S. activity together
Stack of B.L.E.S.S activities with scripture verses
B.L.E.S.S. Cards to give out during our activities
Getting ready to put the daily activities and cards into the bags
All B.L.E.S.S. items are in the bags and ready to be hung up (Days 1 to 25)
All the bags are up (all the way to Day 25) and ready for the activity to start!
Here’s all the weekly update posts of the activities we did last year:
- 25 Days of Christmas B.L.E.S.S.
- Blessing Lives Everyday with Special Surprises (B.L.E.S.S.): 25 Days of Christmas Blessings (Update)
- Blessing Lives Everyday with Special Surprises (B.L.E.S.S.): 25 Days of Christmas Blessings (Week 2)
- Blessing Lives Everyday with Special Surprises (B.L.E.S.S.): 25 Days of Christmas Blessings (Week 3)
It is our plan to do these (or similar items) again this year. We are starting off with the list from last year and hope to continue adding to it by finding other creative ways we can be a blessing to the people we encounter.
The girls are very excited about doing this fun 25 Days of Christmas Blessings activity. I hope to share some of the stories, what we did, experiences, pictures and lessons learned as we go throughout the the 25 days. It is my intention to update you at least once a week. I will share as much as I can but the real reason for doing this activity is to teach our family the joy of giving to others.
I have been asked by a number of people for a printable version of the 25 Days of Christmas B.L.E.S.S. activities, verses, and sheets to handout so here they are for your family to enjoy as well:
- 25 Days of Christmas Blessings – Acts of Service (we came up with more than 25 activities, around 40, then narrowed them down and decided as a family which ones to do together. Blessing Lives Everyday with Special Surprises (B.L.E.S.S.): 25 Days of Christmas Blessings (Week 4)
We have finished our fourth and final week of our 25 Days of Christmas B.L.E.S.S. (Blessing Lives Everyday with Special Surprises). It has been a real joy doing these fun events everyday.
Here is what we did this week with a couple pictures to share of our adventures:
Candy Cane left for the next person to enjoy at the gas pump.
- Day 19 – Bought and donated canned goods for the Harvest Hope food drive that helps feed families in our local community. The girls were so excited about helping fill up the barrel of food. It reminded me of times that were tight in our lives and the many blessings we have including food to eat.
- Day 20 – Left quarters taped to a local vending machine for the next person to enjoy a snack. The girls had fun “guessing” what they thought the next person might get for their snack.
- Day 21 – Taped a Candy Cane to the gas pump for the next person who fills up with fuel to enjoy. The girls giggle at the thought of the next person pulling up and getting the special treat. As we were pulling out of the gas station they started clapping and cheering as someone drove up to our pump! 🙂
- Day 22 – Wrote a “Thank You” note and left goodies for the Hotel Maids who cleaned our room. The neat part is one of the maids recognized us from an earlier trip this year and was excited to see the girls again. It reminded me of the importance of leaving a positive impact on the lives of others no matter where you go, even when you are on vacation or a work trip (you never know who you may run into or see again). We prayed for each person that was cleaning our hall at the hotel that day.
- Day 23 – Sharing special Christmas treats with a friend. The girls were eating a snack while we were running errands when we ran into a friend and without hesitation they gave away the remaining goodies in their bag to their friend so that she could enjoy them.
- Day 24 – Gave the extra cash we had leftover after paying for our purchase back to the cashier so she could apply it to the person’s purchase behind us in line at the store.
- Day 25 – Spread Christmas cheer to Family and Friends. We did not go out on Christmas Day because we felt that it was important to spend time with our family that day so we decided to take the time to call, text, and talk to family and friends to wish them Merry Christmas and let them know that we love them.
One of our favorite verses this week went along with our Day 21 activity.
Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God. – Hebrews 13:16
Thank you note written from the girls to the hotel staff. “Thank you for cleaning our room!” (with lots of hearts)
I was not able to snap as many pictures as we were doing the activities this week with the traveling and I felt like it was more important to participate in the activities then to get the “perfect” picture. The main purpose of this activity is to teach our family the joy of giving and sharing to those around us.
My favorite day was Day 22 because the girls really did do most of it on their own. I asked if they would like to leave a special treat for the hotel staff and they went to work writing notes and coming up with ways to spread Christmas cheer. It was so amazing to see not only their excitement to do the activity but to hear them praying for the staff that would find the little treats and notes that they had left out for them. Since the items were left on the table as we left the hotel it was the easiest one to capture pictures of as well. I am thankful for the opportunity to do these wonderful activities with the family.
This activity has taught our family a lot this year about the joy of giving to others. It has been fun taking time every day to spread Christmas cheer and to pray for those who have received our goodies. Sometimes it’s the little stuff that can make the most positive impact. This may become a tradition in our family for future years as well because it was such a great way to make ourselves specifically think about, pray for, and do something for others each day during a busy time of year. I would love to hear the ways you spread Christmas cheer this Holiday Season.
Karlie’s “1st Poem” written specifically for the hotel staff (the girls gave them a fish sticker). The note said – “A fun fish for you for fun. I love people.”

The girls came up with most of this idea, love that they are putting together B.L.E.S.S. activities pretty much on their own.
I have been asked by a number of people for a printable version of the 25 Days of Christmas B.L.E.S.S. activities, verses, and sheets to handout so here they are for your family to enjoy as well:
- 25 Days of Christmas Blessings B.L.E.S.S. – Acts of Service (we came up with more than 25 activities, around 40, then narrowed them down and decided as a family which ones to do together. I decided to give you all the activities we had listed so you can choose which ones work well for your family from the list. Just print these out on colorful paper, cut out, and place into your B.L.E.S.S. activity bags!)

Sharing goodies
We have entered our third week of our 25 Days of Christmas B.L.E.S.S. (Blessing Lives Everyday with Special Surprises). It has been a real joy doing these fun events everyday.
Here is what we have done so far and a couple pictures to share of our adventures:
- Day 12– Paid for the person’s meal behind us in line at the drive through. The girls were giggling as we drove away. They had fun thinking about the responses the people behind us would have as they drove up to the window to pay for their meal.
- Day 13 – Delivered the goodies for Jake’s team at work. They had a lot of fun with their new “toys”!
- Day 14 – Sent a “surprise” gift to someone who we hadn’t seen in awhile. Love being able to bring unexpected sunshine into someone’s day.
- Day 15 – Put together goody bags and made treats for the girls classmates at school. The girls picked up what they wanted to make and helped then put all the items into the goody bags with very little supervisor. They were excited to spread the Christmas Cheer with their friends.
- Day 16 – Gave the girls teacher, school staff, and the kids in their class some Christmas goodies. We had a blast celebrating with their class and taking baskets of goodies to people.
- Day 17 – Put a card and Christmas goodies into the mailbox for our mailman. The girls thought it was awesome putting fun stuff into the mailbox. It took them several minutes to figure out the “best” way to place the goodies so the mailman will see them.
- Day 18 – taped some coins to the vending machines at a local store for the next person to use.
Goodies for our mailman
One of our favorite verses this week went along with our Day 17 activity.
Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others – Philippians 2:4
I am super excited to see how great this B.L.E.S.S. activity is going already. It has been a true joy sharing with others (many of whom we’ll never meet). It has been a great experience and I look forward to seeing what will happen with our fun adventures this week.

We have entered our second week of our 25 Days of Christmas B.L.E.S.S. (Blessing Lives Everyday with Special Surprises). It has been a real joy doing these fun events everyday. In some cases we get to see who receives our B.L.E.S.S. gift and in other cases we will never know who is on the receiving end. Colored paper ornaments to hang on the Christmas Tree in the children’s wing at the local library
Here is what we have done so far and a couple pictures to share of our adventures:
Gathered and donated 105 magazines to a local public library and school library
- Day 5– Picked out and donated gifts to Country Santa which gives Christmas presents to local children who would otherwise have none at Christmas. The girls each picked out two gifts to give to Country Santa for another child’s Christmas then we prayed for the kids that would receive these gifts for Christmas.
- Day 6 – Gave out Silly Bandz to kids coming in and out of several local stores. I was surprised at the different reactions we noticed while passing out silly bandz from sheer delight to total disinterest. The girls still had fun doing the activity and sharing with kids.
- Day 7 – Gathered and donated magazines and a stack of books to a local library and school library. Both the school library and local library staff were excited to get some new books and magazines. Our family loves reading so this was a fun activity for us. We spent about 30 minutes in the local library donating items, picking out books to read, and coloring Christmas ornaments to hang on their Christmas tree. The lady at the children’s desk was so sweet when the girls showed her the ornaments that had colored for the tree.
- Day 8 – Bought and gave Candy Canes to all the kids in the girls gymnastics class. We just started taking the girls to gymnastics about a month ago (we got Groupon deal from a local gymnastics school) and it has been a lot of fun watching them learn not only new skills but seeing them start new friendships. It has been great getting to know kids (and their parents) outside of school and church that we can be a blessing to as well.
- Day 9 – Handed out candy canes as we were running errands around town and at local stores. It was cute seeing the excited looks on kids faces as the girls handed them a candy cane. The girls loved doing this activity so much I had to remind them not to “rush” to the kids with a candy cane because it could startle the younger kids or their parents if they saw another child charging towards their little one. 🙂
- Day 10 – We had a blast making and delivering Christmas goodies to our neighbors. It was nice to spend a few minutes and catch up with the people on our street. Taking the extra time to reach out to our neighbors has made a tremendous impact over the last few years even on our small street. One of our neighbors lost their only child right before Christmas a few years ago so this is a tough Holiday for them.
- Day 11 – Picked out, wrapped, and donated gifts to the Heart of Christmas for kids in our local schools who would not have gifts otherwise this Holiday Season. Our church coordinates with the school guidance counselor to get information on these kids who are in need (naturally the names of the kids are not given just their sizes, styles, needs, etc…).

One of our favorite verses this week went along with our Day 10 activity.
This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. – John 15:12
Something as simple a sharing a little gift to say “Merry Christmas” to our neighbors has opened many opportunities to interact with them. I think this verse really stood out to all of us this week because we don’t take the time to invest in the lives around us as often as we should. This activity was a little longer because we made it a point to spend time socializing with each of our neighbors for a few minutes but we all walked home feeling even more blessed because of it.
Heart of Christmas

Candy Cane and B.L.E.S.S. note taped to a local ATM Machine
We have officially started our 25 Days of Christmas B.L.E.S.S. (Blessing Lives Everyday with Special Surprises) and in all honesty I think we have been blessed more by doing these activities. It has been a real joy doing these fun events everyday and it has been a great experience so far. In some cases we get to see who receives our B.L.E.S.S. gift and in other cases we will never know who is on the receiving end. Quarters taped to the toy and candy vending machines at the front of the store.
Here is what we have done so far and a couple pictures to share of our adventures:
- Day 1 – Gave a donation to the Salvation Army then passed out stickers at our local Walmart as people were coming in and out of the store. During our 45 minutes passing out stickers at Walmart we saw several friends (it was great to greet friends on their way in or out of the store). The girls gave one little girl and her Dad a sticker, the Dad reached into his Walmart bag pulled out a new container of cookies gave it to his daughter and then had her give the girls each a cookie to say “thank you” for sharing a sticker. It was so sweet, I almost cried watching the whole interaction in the middle of the Walmart store entry way!
- Day 2 – Taped a candy cane to the ATM at a local bank. Taped quarters to the toy and candy vending machines at a local store. The girls wanted to go back the next day and see if the quarters were used!
- Day 3 – Hid dollars in the toy section at the Dollar Tree, the girls loved doing this one and giggled the whole time they were hiding the dollars. They were very excited for the kid who would find a dollar hidden in the toys.
- Day 4 – Collected food for the Alms & Legs Food Pantry to help families in our local community. The girls each picked out items that they wanted to share with others. They spent a considerable amount of timing picking out the perfect cans of vegetables, fruit, and other goodies to share.

One of our favorite verses this week went along with our Day 4 activity.
For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me. – Matthew 25:35
The verse was very specific so it was a fun one to discuss. When we discussed the verse with the girls they knew exactly what it meant. “If a person is hungry we should give them food.” They enjoyed picking out some of their favorite foods to share.

Blessing Lives Everyday with Special Surprises (B.L.E.S.S.): 25 Days of Christmas Blessings
I have been thinking about ways we can be a blessing to others throughout this Christmas season.
The girls and I have came up with a lot of great ideas of ways we can share blessings with people around us (some will go to people we know and others to complete strangers or people we will never meet).
Here’s how we put our B.L.E.S.S. activity together:
Stack of B.L.E.S.S activities with scripture verses
B.L.E.S.S. Cards to give out during our activities
One of the B.L.E.S.S. Cards we made
Day 1 through Day 25 bagged and ready to hang up
All 25 Days of B.L.E.S.S. hung up and ready for us to start!
