Free Audio Book: “How Should Christians Vote?” by Tony Evans
For the month of October Christian Audio is offering a free download of an audio book . This month the audio book is How Should Christians Vote? by Tony Evans.
Christians are a large and influential voting block today. But as each governmental election approaches, an increasing polarity occurs within those claiming the Christian faith. This comes as a result of party-voting rather than voting according to Biblical mandates and authority. To refocus correctly, Dr. Tony Evans goes back to the basics and teaches on how God established government as a divine institution whose tasks include promoting the well-being of those within its realm and protection from evil. Book: “God Gave Us You” by Lisa Tawn Bergren
This week one of the books I read to the girls before bed was God Gave Us You by Lisa Tawn Bergren. Several of Lisa’s books have become family favorites over the past couple of years. The girls love the illustrations as well as the story and I like that Lisa’s stories stimulate conversations about God, creation, love, and more.
The story starts as Mama Bear is tucking Little Cub into bed when Little Cub asked “Mama, where did I come from?” Mama Bear goes through a simple version of how Little Cub was created, including pregnancy and the excitement of preparing for the new baby. I love that the book mentions how the parents prayed for Little Cub even before she was born. Lisa did a great job answering a common question little kids ask parents in this short and sweet book.
Overall I think Lisa Tawn Bergren provides a good story with beautiful illustrations by Laura J. Bryant. The story gives nuggets of valuable information about pregnancy and babies. The only thing that I didn’t “like” in this book (which was minor) was the author used the word “borned” during the conversation between Mama Bear and Little Cub. Even though I know Little Cub was asking the question it distracted from the overall rhythm of the book a little bit. This would be a great book for those who are having a second child or a young child that is asking a lot of questions about where they came from.

Free Audio Book: “Trusting God” by Jerry Bridges
For the month of February Christian Audio is offering a free download of their audio book . This month the audio book is Trusting God by Jerry Bridges.
Because obeying God makes sense to us. In most cases, His laws appear reasonable and wise, and even when we don’t want to obey them, we usually concede that they are good for us. But the circumstances we find ourselves in often defy explanation. (information from Christian Audio)

Book: “One Month to Live” by Kerry & Chris Shook
I recently finished reading “One Month to Live: Thirty Days to a No-Regrets Life” by Kerry and Chris Shook. All of us only have a certain number of days to live yet what if you recently found out that you only have 30 days left? Would you live life differently? What areas would you change in your life? The authors suggest that even though we may have more then 30 days left we need to consider what truly is important to us and live our lives like we would if we only had a short time of life left on this earth. We have the opportunity to make an positive impact on the people in our lives everyday.
The four principles they covered in the book were:
- Live Passionately
- Love Completely
- Learn Humbly
- Leave Boldly
This was a great book for reading during devotions because the chapters where only a handful of pages long and were broken out into 4 life principles. Instead of chapters they go by days (Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, and so forth up to 30 days). Each day begins with a couple quotes on the topic they are covering followed by a story to illustrate the point they are trying to drive home. Some of the stories painted powerful visual pictures in my mind of areas I have been struggling with and would continue to think about for several days after reading them. The authors discussed a variety of key topics such as health, relationship with God, forgiveness, integrity and relationships with family, friends and more. Each day includes:
- Make It Count Moments
- Make It Last for Life
The Make It Count Moments and Make It Last for life sections contain a series of questions regarding the topic they are discussing to help you take a closer look at your life. You may see areas that you need to shape up, take action to correct, or areas you need healing. For example, on the chapter of Forgiveness one of the Make It Count Moments is “If you only had one month to live, what would you ask forgiveness for? From whom? Whom would you need to forgive?”
I was pleased with this book and look forward to sharing it with others. It helped open my eyes to some heart issues that I need to work on and maybe it will do the same for you as well. Life is short and we each have the opportunity to live a life to our fullest potential; a life of passion and purpose with no regrets.

Book: “You Were Born for This” by Bruce Wilkinson
I recently finished the book “You Were Born for This” Seven Keys to a Life of Predictable Miracles by Bruce Wilkinson. In his book Bruce shares several stories of how God was able to use him to encourage believers as well as lead others to Christ. He goes through ways that you can be guided by the Holy Spirit to deliver a miracle to another person. There are four main parts to the book:
- Welcome to Everyday Miracle Territory
- Four Keys to a Life of Miracles
- How to Deliver a Miracle
- Three Keys to Special Delivery Miracles
Bruce Wilkinson puts in a number of examples and stories of how he was used to deliver a miracle. Included in the back of the book is a Epilogue with more stories from readers of his book. If you want to go through the book with a group he provides discussion questions for either a four week or seven week study.
I thought the book had a lot of great reminders of how important prayer is in our life and to be in tune with the Holy Spirit because you never know when you have the opportunity to share with someone. Bruce also addresses that we often fear speaking directly to a stranger about something personal and will question the prompting we feel or justify a reason for not stepping up with excuses such as “Who Me?” or “Do What?” or “What Will They Think?”
The author gives several step by step ways to learn how to act on these miracle missions from prayer, having the heart for people, allowing the Holy Spirit to guide you, and taking risks of faith. I think we all have those moments when out of the blue we think of someone and fail to act on that prompting only to find out later that the person was going through a tough time; what an amazing blessing of encouragement we could have been if we had just called, written that letter, emailed or stopped by to see them. Wouldn’t it be great living a life full of sharing blessings with those around you. We do not know what the person next to us is going through at the moment. A simple question like “I really want to help you. What can I do for you?” can open the door for you to encourage someone.
A handful of my favorite quotes from the book:
“I’ve noticed something reassuring. When we ask to be sent by God, He matches each of us with people we can help.”
“A nudge is an inner push that directs us toward a person, a place, or an action.”
“During a God arranged encounter you will know what God wants”
“Knowing that we are sent, we take deliberate risks that place us in complete dependence on God for a miracle.”

Walgreens: 30 Books for $2
I went to Walgreens to stock up on some of their deals this week. The best deal I got was in their clearance aisle where they had a bunch of their books, coloring books, and activities books on clearance. Since I went a little later in the week not all the advertised products were available and I had several Register Rewards that were expiring this week so it worked out well. I spent $2.27 including tax at Walgreens for this transaction. I picked up a couple other items (including food which you will see in a later post this week) but this was my best deal at Walgreens this week. The books will be great for upcoming road trips and other fun activities with the family.
- 10 – Disney Books (on clearance for $0.49 each)
- 10 – Disney Activity Books (on clearance for $0.29 each)
- 10 – Disney Coloring Books (on clearance for $0.29 each)
The total was over $11 with tax before using discounts & coupons. Here are the coupons I used on the thirty items.
- Used $9 Walgreens Register Rewards
Walgreen’s Register Rewards will expire two weeks from the date they are printed so you will need to make sure to use them before their expiration date. I always keep the ones that are expiring the soonest on top of the stack to make sure to use them first.
Another important fact regarding Walgreen’s Register Rewards you will need to know if you haven’t used them before is you can only use 1 coupon per item. If you use a manufacturer’s coupon for every item you are purchasing you will not be able to use any Register Reward for that transaction. If you do have a coupon for each item then check Walgreen’s weekly ad because they will have items on sale each week for pennies up to $1 that you can use as “filler” items but they won’t raise your total too much. Once you get started using coupons and rewards you may discover, like I did, how to purchase many of your health and beauty items for nothing or very little. Since using coupons and reward programs I rarely pay full price for any of our health and beauty items plus I usually have extra to share with guests visiting us or to give away.
For those of you who shop regularly at Walgreens I encourage you to share how you were able to save this week! Although the weekly ad sales are similar every family and situation is different so you may have found items better suited to your household. In your comment please feel free to share a link to your blog article showing us how you were able to save at Walgreens.
