  • Book: “Black Beauty” by Anna Sewell

The girls are super excited to read their new book with Daddy “Black Beauty” by Anna Sewell.  The book is part of the “Treasury of Illustrated Classics”  book set which we are reading to the girls.  They recently started this book and are already hooked.  On one of our recent road trips they watched a mini series DVD on “Black Beauty” so they have been very excited to read the book.  One chapter at night is not enough for them, they keep begging Daddy to read more!  This book is about a spirited horse named “Beauty” who has had a challenging life as a horse.  The book teaches about empathy and kindness towards animals.

What a great song to remind us of how truly amazing our God is.  He ultimately is in control of everything.  We have the ability to get through each day because we have a relationship with someone bigger then ourselves.

  • Book: “Journey to the Center of the Earth” by Jules Verne

Daddy just finished reading “Journey To The Center Of The Earth” by Jules Verne to our girls.  It is part of the “Treasury of Illustrated Classics” book series we have been picking up for the girls.   The story is about Professor Hardwigg and his nephew Harry who discover an ancient parchment and explore the world together.  Professor and Harry encounter many adventures during their travels including a volcano and ocean sea life.  The book encourages the child’s imagination.  Karlie especially thought the book was amazing.  She is into rockets, planets, space and traveling so the title of the book intrigued her from the beginning.  Both girls enjoyed the book and always love it when Daddy reads “chapter” books to them.  If you are looking for an adventure book to read to your kids check this one out.

Thankful for a Savior who gave his life for me.  “My Savior Loves, My Savior Lives, My Savior’s Always There For Me….” love this phrase in Aaron Shust’s song.  No matter what I am going through he is always there for me!  How refreshing it is to know you are not alone!

  • Song: “You Are Everything” by Matthew West

Isn’t it wonderful knowing that you have someone looking out for you.  Many days I want to be “in control” of my life and it is only when I let it go and trust that he ultimately knows best that I have true peace.  Who or what is your everything?

  • Book: “Half Broke Horses – A True-Life Novel” by Jeannette Walls

We listened to the audio book “Half Broke Horses: A True-Life Novel” by Jeannette Walls on a recent road trip with the family.  It is a true story about a frontier family in the early 1900’s.  The book follows the life of the matriarch, Lily, from her childhood until her children are grown.  She was a gun toting, teacher of a one room school house, who helped her husband manage an active 180 square mile cattle ranch while raising two children.  The story follows her as she and the country overcome hardship within an unending love of adventure and life.

  • Song: “How Can I Keep from Singing” by Chris Tomlin

After a relaxing weekend with my family I came across this song.  The song was a reminder to me that when I have the love of the Christ in my life I will want to sing praises for all he has done.  I have so much to be thankful for in my life.  God chooses to bestow many blessings on me even though I am undeserving of his grace.

How can I keep from singing Your praise?
How can I ever say enough,
    How amazing is Your love?
How can I keep from shouting Your name?
I know I am loved by the King
And it makes my heart want to sing

When is the last time you sang praises to Him?

  • Book: “Pirate Latitudes” by Michael Crichton

On our recent 40 plus hour road trip with the family listened to the audio book “Pirate Latitudes” by Michael Crichton.  It is not my normal type of book but it did keep Jake and I engaged in the story during the wee hours of the morning on our trip.  There are some parts of the book I would not recommend for the kids but for the most part it was fine.  We listened to it while the girls were sleeping through the night or had their headphones on for their movie. The 17th century pirate story is based in Port Royal, Jamaica.  It is a story of pirates in search for a treasure and the adventures that accompanied their journey.  Like many of Crichton’s stories it is based on historical fiction which I feel adds to the depth of the book.
