  • Intentional Living: Weekly Goals

    I am hoping to get through a bunch of the tasks this week!  There is a lot going on around here the next few weeks, but if I remain consistent I will still be able to get a lot accomplish.  Looking forward to getting some items done.

    1. Read The Adventures of Robinhood by Howard Pyle to the kids – finished reading it and Brina has picked out our next chapter book to read together
    2. Plan one special activity with the family
    3. Play a board or card game – we did not get our game in this week due to a lot of other activities that fell on the evenings and weekend
    4. Prepare for Upcoming Fall Events
    5. Spend time Monday – Friday helping the girls with Homework
    6. Prep for a big weekend
    7. Ride Bikes with the kids – our week filled up too quickly we didn’t get to riding bikes
    8. Go for a Walk with the Kids – on the nice non-rainy days this past week would went outside and walked while reviewing for their upcoming Science and Social Studies tests at school

    1. All laundry for the week washed, folded, and put away in one day – it was spread out over a couple days due to my husband having last minute work travel

    I think it is important to share and encourage each other as we seek to improve our lives and the lives of those around us.  I want to live intentionally not just hope all my dreams and goals come true.  When I focus on small steps of improvement I am able to see results as I get closer to my goals.  Some weeks I get closer to the goals I have in my life and other weeks a take a few steps back (life happens, emergencies occur, people get sick).  Once the goals are written down and shared it provides a guideline for what I aim to accomplish this week.

    • To keep me accountable
    • To share a piece of my life with you as I strive to be a better Child of God, Wife, Mom, Friend, Homemaker, Entrepreneur and the many other roles I have each week
    • To have my goals consistently written down so I can gauge progress more accurately

    We have a busy week coming up as well as hosting some guests.   I am going to try and keep the menu simple with all the school, work, and other activities that will be going on this week.  Most of the meals will have to be prepped earlier in the day in order to make efficient use of our packed evenings, but I think we can make it happen.  Here is our menu plan for the upcoming week:

    • Monday (Beef or Seafood Entree): Beef Minestrone Soup, Fresh Vegetables
    • Tuesday (Kid’s Night to Cook):  Spaghetti, Fresh Salad
    • Wednesday (Chicken or Vegetarian Entree): Special Event
    • Thursday (Pasta or Pork Entree):  Pork Loin, Steamed Vegetables
    • Friday, Saturday, & Sunday:  Leftovers, Family Preference, and Hosting

    I have a general pattern I try to follow for my weekly Menu Plan (for example Monday we have a beef or seafood entree and so forth).  It is my goal, at least in the beginning, to have at least the main dish and one side planned.  I will put together the remaining side dishes (veggies / fruits) based on the food items that need to be used up first and compliment the main entree.

    Setting a weekly menu plan helps me utilize my time better, thus freeing up extra time to spend with my family.  On the days that I am working longer hours I can prep the meal in advance so it will be easier to pull together once I am home.  As I go through the menu planning process I will try to share some of our favorite family recipes.  If there is a specific recipe you would like please let me know and I will do my best to accommodate (some recipes are a toss together meal and I do not use any set measurements).

    We made it through a busy week last week.  This week is starting out a little different since the girls get today, Monday off school with a Teachers In Service.  It has been nice having them home for an extra day this weekend.  We went through all their Fall and Winter clothes to see what still fits.  It always surprises me how much they grow from year to year.  Last week Jake was traveling for work and a couple of us were fighting colds so it was a little more exhausting.  Hopefully this week everyone will be well and we’ll get back on trip with everything.   Here is our menu plan for the upcoming week:

    It is hard to believe another week is already upon us.  My husband and I were going over our budget this month and decided that the multiple “little” grocery store trips were pushing us over budget so I am going try to do only one grocery stop a week.  The once a week grocery trip will include any household or health and beauty items.  Also, we have items in our pantry and freezer we need to use up as well.   Here is our menu plan for the upcoming week:

    The week ahead of us is looking pretty busy with a few extra activities tacked onto an already crazy schedule.  As we were looking at our schedule this week my husband suggested that I do easy and simple meals this week.  Thankful for a husband who is understanding and willing to be a little flexible with the family dinner.  These meals will help us cut back on our food budget and make it easier to prep with everything that is going on during the week.  While the menu is not overly exciting it keeps us fed during a busy time.  Here is our menu plan for the upcoming week:

    • Thursday (Pasta or Pork Entree):  Leftovers

    It has been awhile since I posted our family menu schedule on the blog.  This summer the only week we were home for an entire week was when Jake’s sister and family were visiting us.  Thankfully, we had a great summer and safety as we traveled to see a lot of family and friends.  We are now back into the school routine schedule so it is essential that I start doing the menu planning regularly.  By the time the kids get out of school and we do any after school activities, tutoring, homework, dinner, baths, lunches packed, etc…. our evening is done and it’s time for bed.  Since homework takes a chunk of the afternoon and evenings I need to make sure I know what our menu is going to be so I can prep, plan, organize, and have everything ready to run as efficiently as possible so everyone is fed and in bed on time.

    I am extremely grateful for a husband who pitches in and helps in the kitchen, there were a couple nights this past week that we were still doing homework when he arrived home from work so he put the finishing touches on the dinner so I could help the kids wrap up homework.  Thanks Handsome!!!  Eating our evening meal together is important to us.   We want to be able to relax and catch up with each other once dinner is served.   Since Monday is a Holiday I will be moving our Beef night to Tuesday and giving the girls a week off from cooking until we get the school schedule down.  Plus, the kids pitched in and helped with meals as well as special cooking this past weekend.  Here is our menu plan for the upcoming week:

  • Road Trip Tips – Pack 1 Outfit Per Day for Each Family Member in Ziploc Bags

    We are all packed up and ready to go on our long 40 plus hour road trip!  Thankfully, the kids travel so well.  We have a blast on the road exploring various places.

    This particular road trip included different stops each night for a week before we got to our final destination where we would stay several days before heading back home.  As we were discussing how to pack for the trip my husband suggested packing our clothes in ziploc bags in one suitcase. In the suitcase we had a row of bags for the girls (both of their outfits still fit into one ziploc bag), one row for Jake, and one for me.  On top of the rows we had a couple extra shirts and items for Jake and I in bags on top.  There were also 2 bags with everyone’s swimming suits and 2 bags of pj’s.

    When we stopped each night we would pull an outfit out of the suitcase for each person and put it into a backpack with all our toiletries.  We had everything we needed in one backpack each night when we stopped whether we were staying at a house or hotel.  We didn’t have to bring in any suitcase or make multiple trips because it all fit into one backpack.  It was so simple, easy, and worked perfectly for our family!  It made the overnight stays so much more efficient for our entire family.

    Packing this way took a little more work as we packed, but it worked so well it was totally worth it since we were at a different place every night the first week of our road trip.  If we were just going to one place for the entire vacation it would still be easier to pack regularly, however, this will be our new way to pack when we are doing road trips with a number of stops.  I found that if I packed the clothes and bags in the evening while we were watching TV it only took a little bit to get it done.  We did pack a couple spares bags for each person (just in case or rain or something unpredictable).  If you are looking for a simple and easy way to pack for a family on a road trip we highly recommend you pack one outfit per day for each family member in ziploc bags!   While on vacation you will have more opportunities to relax and enjoy your vacation, take those pictures, and create special memories!

  • Quick Tip – Recipe on the Bowl

    The other day while Jake was making a meal he prepped another  meal for the following day.    Since he prepped the meal and I was the one who was going to make the meal the following day he wrote the directions with a dry erase marker on the outside of the stainless steel bowl holding some of the ingredients.  When I opened the fridge the next day I saw the bowl with all the directions on it.  It was awesome pulling out the bowl, following the directions, and enjoying a delicious meal with the family.   After dinner all I had to do was wash the bowl and all the dry erase marker came right off.  Thankful for a husband who is thoughtful, creative, and willing to help around the house.  It was a great meal too!  Thanks Babe!

    It has been a little wild around here lately and I haven’t been posting my weekly dinner menu for awhile even though I am doing it  (most weeks).  Since I am  already planning the menu I might as well share it with you too.   The menu plan is especially important when we are busy.  The normal Wednesday and Thursday meal entree’s are switched around due to our schedules that day, I needed to be able to do something that didn’t take a lot of prep and with items we already have in the fridge or pantry.  Here is our menu plan for the upcoming week:

    • Tuesday (Kid’s Night to Cook): Buffalo Avocado Chili (they wanted to make it a “cereal night” but when they found the Buffalo Avocado Chili that we made awhile ago and stuck in the freezer they opted for that instead!)
    • Wednesday (Chicken or Vegetarian Entree): Cubed Steak Sandwiches, Sauteed Onions & Mushrooms
    • Thursday (Pasta or Pork Entree):  Roasted Chicken, Steamed Vegetables

  • A Fresh & Clean House with the Help of Mr. Clean Liquid Muscle! #MrCleanMorePower

    I LOVE it when my house smells fresh and is sparkly clean!  Spring has been in the air with the 70 degree temperatures the last few days making me get excited about doing my Spring Cleaning!    Thank you Mr. Clean and SheSpeaks for helping me  tackle my cleaning this week.    I always love it when I find great products that help me keep my house clean.  Somehow our family manages to make a mess which means regular cleaning is a must in our home.

    A few days ago an amazing package arrived on my front porch!  I was thrilled with Mr. Clean’s new product and the kids were excited about the motion light inside the box (very fascinating)!  Mr. Clean Liquid Muscle has 2.5x more cleaning power in every drop!

    The kids were super excited to see how it works too!  They are helping around the house doing more chores so they wanted to know if it worked (and if they could have the motion light for their own special project).

    It had a wonderful fresh scent and lots of great bubbles!  You only have to squeeze the bottle once per gallon of water because it automatically shuts off after the correct amount has been dispensed.  The good news about it only squirting the amount I need is that the kids won’t waste it when it’s their turn to use it!

    First area to tackle was the kids bathroom.  I am not sure what happened when they were brushing their teeth this morning, but somehow toothpaste was spread from one end of the counter to the other.  The kids bathroom seems to be the area I get the least excited about cleaning because I know as soon as they brush their teeth again or wash their hands the toothpaste and soap suds will be everywhere.  One of these days they will figure out how to brush their teeth and only get the toothpaste on their toothbrushes!  I guess I should be pleased that they are at least brushing their teeth even if the whole process is a little messy.

    Not only is the toothpaste all over the counter and sink, but someone left the cap off the toothpaste!  I am beginning to think they must have been doing a “toothpaste” craft, painting, or trying to use their creative juices with the amount of toothpaste I found on the counter this morning!!!

    The first wipe with Mr. Clean Liquid Muscle took all the sticky globs of toothpaste right off the sink!  Love it!!!  It worked really well and still lots of suds too!  I have used other cleaners on their sticky toothpaste mess and I had to really scrub to get it off.  Mr. Clean Liquid Muscle took one swipe followed by a rinse and it was done in just of few seconds!  So excited!

    The kids sink is once again clean and sparkly!   Let’s see how long it will last!  At least it is good to know that Mr. Clean Liquid Muscle works amazing and quickly on the toothpaste messes the kids leave behind.

    After finishing the kids bathroom I was able to get more of my Spring Cleaning done, including scrubbing down the kitchen cabinets, mopping the kitchen floor, cleaning the master bathroom and more!  Thanks for making my cleaning easier Mr. Clean!  Even my husband and kids commented on how clean, sparkly, and fresh smelling the house was when they came home!  I am already looking forward to tackling a few more Spring Cleaning projects with Mr. Clean Liquid Muscle this week!
